Lenny Kravitz Drops Free Mixtape

January 13, 2012

Link

Lenny Kravitz's ninth studio album, Black and White America, is centered strongly around the concept of integration. Taking musical cues from the past while looking forward, Black and White America seamlessly pulls together a wide range of musical and cultural influences, both urban and rural.

Expanding on the concept of blending and unifying, Lenny Kravitz has released the album as a DJ mixtape, presenting the tracks in a new sequence with skillfully crafted mixing and exclusive re-edits.

Produced, written, arranged, composed and performed by Lenny Kravitz. Mixtape compiled by Bill Coleman for Peace Bisquit. Mixtape coordinated and engineered by Jamie Brundage, Angelo "Pepe" Skordos and Bill Coleman for Peace Bisquit.

Nice. Free as well. lol

Well I like Black & White America and think it's a very strong, focused and enjoyable album. Bought the 2-disc deluxe edition btw. That said, this "mixtape" should be fun. Besides, it's free! Thanks Lenny.

So is this only available as 1 hour long track? That's how my download is.

I prefer to have seperate tracks. Not that I'm complaining, it's free.wink

But if it only works as a continous mix, hence "mixtape", I'm cool with that. cool

Ahh...so, that's what it is. I figured it was. Is this album all Lenny songs? Is that what other artist do when they release a mix-tape? Only include their work? I have DJ mix tapes which I think would be the only way I could enjoy a collection like this.

This is all Lenny but with little bits and pieces from other artists mixed in for extra percussion etc. Most tracks are mixed continously but a few do have stop points. It's kinda nice. Though if anyone gets the motivation to seperate tracks as best they could let me know. I would greatly appreciate it. I'm just not that talented. wink

More than anything else, artists use mixtapes as marketing tools for official albums and/or as a means to establish the ultimate connection with their fan base.

yeah its mainly a connection thing to your fans, the DJ ones that have mixes of different artists and stuff (like that dudes on streets of NYC hand out then charge for) are different type deals, alot of artists make these free for download and create buzz themselves, usually when they are just tired of the machine of the industry. Tearria Mari, has 5 out plus music videos, Amerie did 3 and has another one coming, teedra moses did it, MYA did 1 and it was in stores, and just released a digital only type collection to Itunes of stuff her fans wanted put out, as a gift to them for waiting for her to have a domestic release (her last 3 have been Japan only). But tons do this.
