I have to admit though almost anyone who does a Prince cover don't always get it right. I didn't think Kevin's version of "The Beautiful Ones" was as masterful as Prince's by a long shot. In the case of Fantasia, she's a good singer and she can perform as well as some older performers (Patti for instance) but I would think if someone was gonna cover Prince, they would have a problem to match what Prince brought to the table. That said, I did like Fantasia's live cover of it.

Whaddup, Tim:

My point about Kevin Michael was that he came in here, personally trying to get us

to listen to his boring and bland interpretation, and got his ass kissed because he was

here personally and a celebrity. But with Fantasia, who is a much more interesting

singer, there are people in this thread saying that she shouldn't cover "Purple Rain"/Prince.

But if she was in this thread herself, asking us, I bet 99% of y'all would tell her "Yes!

Go for it!" Being in the presence of celebs makes the knees weak.

I wanted to tell Kevin Michael that his song sucked and to get the fuck out of this forum

but I've been banned before for being too brusque.

Like I mentioned earlier, there are some artists who can cover Prince well: check out

D'Angelo's version of "She's Always In My Hair." I don't buy the Prince-is-so-fucking-

dope-and-original-that-he-can't-be-covered bullshit.

I dug D'Angelo's cover of "She's Always in My Hair". nod
