Lord, where to start-Kurt Cobain, Prince, D'Angelo-not in that order. There are few others, but for the life of me, I can't think of them "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

You know, if you judge him by the work he did on Sons of Soul and House of Music, I'd say that Saadiq was one of the best R&B songwriters of all time.
But his solo work is spotty: Instant Vintage was mangled and devoid of anything substantial and Ray Ray was devoid of any real artistic merit. The Way I See It and Stone Rollin' are quite good. And then I remember that he co-wrote and produced two of the biggest soul/R&B records of my life time: Bilal's "Soul Sista" and D'Angelo's "Untitled (How Does It Feel?)."
But I agree with you - I should've added him on my list.

For ME, Jam & Lewis! Always have been, always will be. They're so versatile and so talented. Love my Flyte Tyme brothas! Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

David Hasselhoff [Edited 1/11/12 18:41pm] You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
