Considering the fact that I had no real interest in this song, and thought Tattoo was a very uninspired title, I think it is a good sign for them that this song has been rattling around my head since hearing it yesterday.

For some reason I can totally hear Frank Zappa singing this song. Especially the "swap meet Sally" part.

They like Prince are no less good, they have changed. That's what people do throughout their lives. Some may not like it, but that's the way it is. Either enjoy the ride or get off. I'm glad they're alive and well to do it again. However they do it. They like Prince gave us some of the best music from the late 70's throughout the 80's. They don't owe us a thing.

GREAT that they're BACK!!!!!! Couple of things...... 1) Why the f**k is Sam Hagar "Dry Snitchin'"???? Mofo just MAD that Chickenfoot ain't opening!!!! And 2) I BETCHA "Tattoo" IS NOT the BEST thing on the new VH!!!! A LOTTA naysayers are gonna eat their words and some sh*t when it comes out!!! Saw 'em @ Key Arena in 2007 and the show was BANGIN'!!!! Can't wait 2 see 'em in May!!!!!

It's nice people seeing that it does get better with repeated listenings. And it does get stuck in your head. For good or bad. lol. We can all agree it's not a stomp you over the head, in your face type song. But it is fun, catchy, has great lyrics, a nice groove and a great guitar solo. 'Nuff said. The album will reveal all.

The song is average, for me. Has a couple nice melodies, a couple nice lines of lyrics. Definitely doesn't strike me as a classic, though.

The big problem I have is that the video is the very definition of awful. Looks like a friend filmed a couple takes of them ALMOST fake performing the song and edited it together in Windows Movie Maker. It does absolutely nothing to help sell the song, or their reunion.

The general type responses I see/hear the most in regards to Tattoo are basically,

It's underwhelming, average, meh, etc....

but,

It's catchy, fun, great solo, sticks in my head.

Say what you want about the video/song but it's already received over 1 million hits on youtube.

And bashing aside, people are talking and some are actually starting to come around.

Expressing an opinion does not equal bashing.

Nothing about it stuck in my head other than the fact that Dave doesn't even seem to be trying to properly lip sync in the video, which is distracting as all get out. I honestly could not tell you one thing about the song itself after that first listen, which will most likely be my last.

I like Van Halen. I even liked Van Haggar. But something about this latest reunion just doesn't ring true for me.

Never really been familiar with Van Halen, but this song sounds good to me.

Will have to check out some of their older stuff. Can you guys recommend some albums for me to try on??

I see your point about the video. As stated, I almost feel like it's a deliberate attempt to be low budget ala Jump video. I dunno. Regardless, I like it. Though I wish they would release a more rocking style tune also to give the hardcore's something to chew on.

Dont quite understand why the video doesnt match the vocals but besides that its not too bad of a song.

And as others have mentioned the "Tattoo-Tattoo" line is very catchy and its been stuck in my head for days!!!

The song, the video, the whole vibe is just well...fun. A good friend of mine suggested that maybe people forgot what a fun song sounds like. Everything is so serious it seems. And fun doesn't mean stupid, shallow or ridiculous. There are differences. Just saying.

We don't know if ALL the songs are old demos as of yet. She's The Woman is indeed an old demo from '77 that Gene Simmons produced. Tattoo is loosely based on a old song called Shot Down In Flames. Lyrics and melody are completely changed. Bullethead which we haven't heard yet but is supposed to be on the new album is also an old demo from the early days. How that has changed we don't know yet. As far as the other tracks, nobody really knows at this point. There's probably more reworked old ideas but I'm sure there's some new stuff as well.

She's A Woman would have been a great lead single.

I LOVE VH, but not feelin this one.

That's one possible way Michael Anthony could make money from it.

That was 1984, and it was probably shot on film. It didn't LOOK cheap at the time. In 2011, this video looks cheap, like they weren't trying. And this video doesn't remind of Jump at all.

Whatever, it's only a video, doesn't really matter that much if the song was kicking my ass.

I agree the video is absolutely terrible, but mostly from an aesthetic POV. It just looks terrible. What the band is actually doing is not much different than what they would be doing in a good video.
