Laura Nyro Influence on Kate Bush? I'm a late convert to Kate's music, so sorry if this topic has already been discussed, but I've been listening a lot to Kate's 50 Words for Snow and her piano tracks remind me so much of Laura Nyro's slit your wrists and let out the pain sound around the Eli - NYT era. Has Kate ever mentioned any Laura influence? It's subtle, but certain phrasings and melodies are recognizably things Ive heard Nyro do/sing.

I love Laura Nyro and am glad to see her mentioned on this site. I don't know if Kate has ever mentioned Laura or if she has even listened to her, but it's possible...

A few years ago I sent someone here on the org some bootleg Prince dvds. A week later,as a thank you, she sent me Laura Nyro's "Eli & the 13th Confession" cd. As a 25 year old black kid from Detroit,it was the weirdest shit I'd ever heard. I picked it back up about 2 years ago and listened again and was floored! I promptly went and bought New York Tendaberry, Christmas and the Beads Of Sweat, Its Gonna Take A Miracle, and Smile. She's now one of my favorite artists and Im so happy she'll finally be inducted in the RRHOF this year. My favorite songs of hers are Upstairs By A Chinese Lamp, Emmie, Midnight Blue, Blackpatch, Brown Earth, and Woman's Blues

Definitely one of themost underrated albums of the latter half of the 20th century. Change it one more time..

I have not read anything about Kate stating that, but I would not be surprised if there was an influence. I have Laura's first four albums and think they are all spectacular.
