Could Adele tie MJ and Katy Perry's record?

Set Fire to the Rain sky rocketed to #2 on the itunes charts today, it could easily be her third number 1. And with Rumor has it and Turning Tables already doing well on the radio do you think Adele might have 5 numbers ones on her landmark album? At the very least I'd say she has 5 top 10.

Adele's songs have been in high demand lately! SFTTR could easily be a top three hit next week or better, just SKYROCKET to number-one when no one's looking because I clearly didn't see this coming. It's a good song too. nod

WELL, in my humble opinion, Adele didn't wrote those songs thinking about going to number 1.

She's an honest writer. She's just a post-adolescent girl who sounds like a 30 or 40-year old singer telling her stories.

She is/was not HUNGRY to become the NEW DIVA as normally Americans girls are (and I say American as a cultural thing).

She could and she SHOULD get all the prizes she deserves just for making good music with honest lyrics.

Simply & plain= the real thing.

I hope the best for her.

Her laughter is hilarious. Listening to her songs, you would never think she's in her early 20's and that she writes her own words.

I got her DVD and I enjoyed it a lot.

I wish her the best.

wink

After hearing them 10,000 times over the last year, I'm finally beginning to shudder now when I hear Someone Like You and Rolling In the Deep. Holy crap has radio played the living shit out of those songs. Great songs but PLEASE stop. Amazingly Set Fire To The Rain still sounds brilliant. Shes had an incredible year.

I think XL/Columbia played it smart though, they didn't have Adele spamming the radio like Interscope did with that other pop artist that shall remain nameless. Plus other media were playing her other songs so in essence this helped 21 to continue to sell like it has... if more songs do come, I hope they put out "Rumour Has It" or "Turning Tables" next.

I think the label is playing their part by rubbing their hands in glee. They know they hit jackpot and it had very little to do with them and alot to do with a very good album from a very likable honest down-to-earth natural girl who obviously is not a fame/celebrity-whore and who's timed it perfect.

I'm more interested in whether or not it'll help 21 go Diamond. (10 million) That's more important. She's currently at 5.8 million. I'm really starting to believe she'll do it.

- This is only single #3. It's already Setting Fire To The Rain You're Faves.

- The Grammys have yet to air. After her sweep she'll continue to see increases.

- A possible 4th & 5th single that seems destined to blow up like the previous three.

Well the label im hearing wants a new record out by May? is this what people are hearing too? And i just got this INXS dvd about the new music they are doing, and Tim Farriss was talking about how they had 2 HUGE dance hits this past year and now Adele is going to cover "Never Tear Us Apart"? Seriously i hope not, not that she cant cover what she wants, but, of all the damn Inxs songs to touch we gotta go there. Such a soulful Michael Composition, is gonna get that "Celine DIon" like treatment i know it.

No way! Adele has too good of taste to let that happen.

Its not about taste or even talent, its about the cheese factor, she doesnt have a band like an Inxs which is basically probably the most diverse musical sound to back her up, production is the key, thats why the Inxs record worked, besides Michaels voice, the band was stronger than him many times.

I don't think any of her covers have been cheesy. I especially like "Hiding My Heart" and "Lovesong."

Right, I don't know why anyone would make her that cheesy. Please. Even she said her next album would be so far to the left of what we're getting now.

Weekly Chart Notes: Adele, Rihanna, Guy Lombardo

'DEEP' ROLLS ON: Adele is starting 2012 the same way she spent most of 2011: making notable news on Billboard charts.

As her album "21" - Billboard's top album of last year - returns to the leadoff spot on the Billboard 200, the set's first single, "Rolling in the Deep" - 2011's top song - completes a full year on the Billboard Hot 100. "Deep" rallies 35-30 as the chart's top Airplay Gainer, due, in part, to renewed radio interest as adult stations returned to non-seasonal programming, as well as from prominent placing on stations' year-end countdowns across multiple formats.

"Deep" becomes one of just seven singles by women to have tallied 52 weeks or more on the Hot 100. Here is the elite list:

Chart Weeks, Title, Artist, Years on Chart
69, "How Do I Live," LeAnn Rimes, 1997-98
65, "You Were Meant for Me"/"Foolish Games," Jewel, 1996-98
64, "Before He Cheats," Carrie Underwood, 2006-07
56, "The Way You Love Me," Faith Hill, 2000-01
56, "I Don't Want to Wait," Paula Cole, 1997-98
53, "Breathe," Faith Hill, 1999-2000
52, "Rolling in the Deep," Adele, 2011

Year-end chart trivia: Hill's "Breathe" and Adele's "Deep" are the only year-end Hot 100 No. 1s to have spent a year or more on the weekly chart. If "Deep" can hang on for two more weeks - seemingly a possibility considering that it's still No. 4 on Adult Contemporary and continuing to receive airplay on pop, adult pop and adult alternative radio - it would become the longest-charting No. 1 song of the year in the Hot 100's 53-year history.

And, considering that all the songs above live on in gold rotation at AC radio - Jewel's 15-year-old "You Were Meant for Me," for instance, received 256 plays on adult contemporary stations in the Dec. 28-Jan. 3 chart tracking week, according to Nielsen BDS, translating to an audience of 1.5 million in that span - "Deep" may only have just begun its long-term radio life.

'21' = 1, '19' = 11: Got that?

While Adele's sophomore studio album, "21," returns to the Billboard 200 summit for a 14th frame, her debut set "19" rebounds 17-11.

The placement for "19" marks one of the three highest of its 115 weeks on the chart, as well as its highest in almost three years.

After debuting at No. 62 the week of June 28, 2008, "19" soared to an original No. 11 peak that Nov. 8, vaulting from No. 46 after she appeared on "Saturday Night Live." "The audience, many of whom tuned in to watch Alaska governor Sarah Palin's guest appearance, responded enthusiastically to Adele's performance," Billboard noted about the "highly touted newcomer" (Adele, not Palin) in that issue.

On the Feb. 28, 2009, Billboard 200, "19" bounded 27-10 for its only week in the top 10 to-date. Her win as Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards that year spurred the vault.

As the sustained success of "21" has likely influenced new Adele fans to discover its predecessor, "19" single "Chasing Pavements" is also enjoying renewed attention.

Although "Pavements" reached a modest No. 16 on Adult Pop Songs three years ago, such reporters as CBS Radio-owned WWFS (Fresh 102.7) New York have recently sprinkled the song into rotation, effectively creating a bonus current for listeners who may not have been aware of it before Adele buzz reached its present heights.

----

Jeez Louise, Adele!!! whew And she ain't even doing shit. lol Of course I credit (partially) her label (shouts out to Rick Rubin!).

And Adele won’t be immune to that I see people getting tired of her now . I’m hearing Lana Del Rey is next in line.
