Oh it's true. Pages 152, 153, & 154 in the book. In the book it said Linda was a teenager, Bobby in his early 20's.
I read the year was 1970 but did the biography state the year it started?
It didn't give the year that this all started. Bobby said in the book that he was closer in age to the daughter than the mother. There is a family photo in the book with Bobby & Barbara, his son with Barbara, and Sam's two daughters with Barbara. It's dated 1970. The book also said they divorced in 1970. |

This is just wild to me! So let me run down the Cooke/Womack connections to see if I really understand just how without boundaries this clan is.
- Sam Cooke gave Bobby Womack and his brothers their "big break" by signing them to his label.
- Bobby married Barbara (Sam's widow) 3 months after Sam's murder
- Bobby and Barbara have a child together
- Bobby has sex with his stepdaughter Linda (Sam's and Barbara's daughter who is also half-sister to Bobby and Barbara's child)
- Bobby and Barbara divorce
- Linda marries Bobby's brother Cecil Womack (Bobby goes from being Linda's stepfather to being her brother-in-law, Linda is now a half-sister and aunt to the child of Bobby and Barbara, Cecil goes from Linda's uncle to her husband.)
- Cecil Womack had been previously married to Mary Wells with whom he had three children
- Mary Wells dates Cecil's and Bobby's brother Curtis after divorcing Cecil
- Curtis and Mary have a child together (Mary's and Curtis' child and Mary's and Cecil's children are now half-siblings and first cousins.)
Is this madness correct? Wow!

Yep. Them Womacks have been all up in that Cooke pussy. I don't know what was up with Mary though. I have to watch that Unsung epi again. I just remember that she may have had a nervous breakdown, or not in her right mind or something when that affair began, however, I guess she wanted to finish what she started. I can only imagine how tore up that family has been though. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince. |

Yeah the way Unsung said it, Mary had a mental breakdown or may have mentally disabled/disturbed by the time she and Curtis started their relationship. I'm convinced Mary was mentally fucked up especially during that time period, which explains why she used other methods for her battling depression. I think I heard she was clinically depressed. However the Cookes and Womacks, Jesus... I know Sam Cooke is rolling in his grave at the craziness. |

LOL!!! I must have had too much time on my hands with this day off from work. I mean I just watched the Bobby Womack Unsung on my DVR. Then I was thinking about the Mary Wells' episode. I came here to see if the music aficinados of this section had commented on this ratchedness, then I find out that Bobby was sleeping with Linda!!! I had to make sense of it. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination... |

I did the same thing! I watched Mary Wells episode just before I watched Bobby's. And the 2 back to back....

Just catching up on Unsung and saw Bobby's this is the third best Unsung to me after Sheila E. and Debarge. Bobby really went through alot with the death of his children, his Brother, drugs and of course Sam cooke's wife. Still my favs from him are Across a 110th Street and If You Think Your Lonely Now He was so real on the interview and you really felt what he was saying. Nice one. |

Missfee you really ain't missing that much. It should've been titled "Adventures of Bobby Womack's Penis".
And boy, did that penis went through some trails and tribulations
I have some random EU dvd of Bobbi Womack touring Europe & the UK in the 90's (I think?); and in the documentary footage you could see he kept quite busy with the ladies- and it looked like pretty much a "go" that he was knocking out his background singer's back. I swear that chile reminded me of Lorelle from Dreamgirls- all giggly and goo-goo eyed from being up under "Jimmy Early" , the big r&b legend |

Okay, I'm definitely tuning in to this, because I liked those two episodes alot. I saw Bobby Womack's episode on the video menu at TVOne, but somehow just never got around to watching it. After reading this thread, though- looks like that was a doozy of a show! My mother used to love some Bobby Womack back in the day, and she used to wear out the 45 of his song "Harry Hippie". I was just a toddler when that song was out, but I still love it to this day. |

Yeah you should check it out it's a good one. I was reluctant to watch it, but I'm glad I did. I have a new appreciation for him now. I always thought he went after Sam Cooke's wife, but it seems she went after him Cooke's brothers damn near killed Bobby Bobby seems like a genuine person and his voice has so much feeling to it He says so country singer brought him Harry Hippie and he changed it and made it his own Nice episode to watch. I thought nothing was better and sadder than the Debarge one, but Sheila and Bobby's are pretty good. |

This ep is definitely worth watching because Bobby is probably the most candid of all of the Unsung guests I've seen so far (there are a few I haven't watched yet), but this ep is very tame copmared to his book "Midnight Mover". I'd def suggest you guys seeking out a copy because it's probably the most candid autobiography I've ever read...and I'm considering that up against both Rick and Etta James'! |
