Overall, I liked Bobby's Unsung epi. Sure he went through plenty of tragedy, but like they said, and what I didn't realize, is that he's one of the last few soul singers still alive today. Most of his contempories have passed on. So amazing. And the man can still sing.
As far as the Barbara story goes, they tried to make it seem like Barbara seduced Bobby when he was only meaning to comfort her after Sam's death and that..well Bobby just fell for it. But she must had been a firecracker to pull out a gun on her brother-in-law. How smart of Bobby to leave the bullets out. He was right. If bullets would had been in that gun, even though it was her shooting, he would have gotten blamed for the deaths of Sam's brothers too. And let's not even start with the media, they would have had a field day with that, especially since Sam's death is so mysterious and doesn't make sense. If Barbara would had shot and killed Sam's brothers that day when they were beating up Bobby, then I'm pretty sure it would had been speculated that Bobby would have had something to do with Sam's death. So glad he dodged that bullet.
It was really interesting hearing him explain how some of those songs came about. Aside from the one already mentioned, the "If You Think You're Lonely Now" story was funny too.
Seeing how dominant Bobby's personality is, I can definitely see how he might have bumped heads with the other soul greats already mentioned initially this thread...James, Wilson, etc. Seems like he can be an asshole at times, but he's definitely real and passionate about how he feels and has no problem expressing it.
And I was corrected too, I thought "Harry Hippie" was about his brother Harry, but now we know that it wasn't.
Seems like Bobby was kind of attractive in those pics when he was singing with his brothers...after that, somehow, he got ugly. But that man sure can sing his ass off though!

Bobby Womack definitely is the last man standing when it comes to soul music and old school r&b artists. I liked his soulful rendition of 'California Dreamin' its the polar opposite from the original. I didnt know his prowess as an acoustic guitar virtuoso. The Unsung episode was ok but it went pretty slow I'm glad he did dish the dirt about himself.but I'm sure there's more skeletons in his closet that's not publicly known. It was rumored he slept with his stepdaughter (Sam's daughter) I knew he wasnt going to address that. His life was a hot mess but in the end he's a survivor.
It was surprising to see Bill Withers now he's an Unsung episode I heard his pimp hand was pretty strong. [Edited 1/10/12 4:58am]

I think Wilson Pickett is deserving of an Unsung epi as well. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Did you guys pay attention to the performances that were shown on the show? I think one of them was filmed in Dallas about 15 years ago. It surely did look like the concert that I went to.
As for the episode, I really enjoyed it. It really made me appreciate his music even more. It also made me appreciate him as a writer more.

TV One streams all of them on their site. You may have to dig around to find some of the older ones. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Soul Tracks.com had another clip cut out of the aired episode where he talked about his first check and moving his family out of the projects of Cleveland. Bobby, as much craziness as he got involved with, is a very knowledgeable man.

Unsung didn't say why he and Barbara divorced. In the book Bobby admits Barbara caught him with her daughter, pulled a gun on him, and grazed him with a bullet. I agree, the book goes into much more detail. I liked the good music though.

WTF? I thought that was just a rumor? It's fucking true?????? How old was Linda by that time? HOT MESS!!! I got to get that book for real. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Now I wonder if the gun Barbara used was the one he bought her "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Bobby lives a quiet but active life in Sherman Oaks, CA, about 15 miles west of Los Angeles. A friend offered me access, but I was too nervous about the prospect of meeting my hero and declined.

whew, I just watched this episode late but it blew my wig off.LOL
Is this the same Cecil that was involved with Mary Wells? was this before or after Mary Wells??
(Note; I had just watched Mary's unsung before watching Bobby's) "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

Yes the same Cecil. He married Linda AFTER Mary Wells I believe. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Oh it's true. Pages 152, 153, & 154 in the book. In the book it said Linda was a teenager, Bobby in his early 20's.
