Putting things in Perspective.... First off this not a thread to discuss good and bad in music then and now, cause we have enough of those, its more about the decline of the relevance of Music in forms of media and day to day life of people. I came upon this by accident when i was checking to see the exact recording Dates of Billy Joel's Glass Houses record. Well NOT to my amazement, was that the record sold 7.1 million copies in the USA alone, no shock to me, but the shock to me was that 7.1 million made him the 41st biggest selling album of the 80s! Let me repeat 7.1 million was 41st best, released now it would easily be top 3. Now U can spin that anyway you want, talk downloading nonsense, but it really shows the change of what importance and relevance has and the way its sold, the marketing changes, the way things are done, the lack of MTV, lets face it, alot of artists benefited in the 80's from that, now MTV has no relevance nor does BET or VH1, and the absence of music shows on tv? name one? wheres Solid Gold, and Hot Tracks, and Friday Night Videos etc....folks music has lost its importance, and we let it happen. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F | |
