Caldera : Sky Islands (1977) re-issued on CD

At the end of December, EMI Japan finally re-released Jazz Fusion Latin group Caldera's second album, "Sky Islands" on CD.

This album was a wonderful Collaboration between Caldera, led by Keyboardist Eduardo Del Barrio (Who co- wrote the Earth Wind and Fire songs "Fantasy" and "Miracles") and Earth Wind and Fire's keyboardist Larry Dunn , who produced the album and contributed the song "Seraphim (Angel)". This album also features a young Dianne Reeves, who would later cover the title tune on her own Blue Note album.

Caldera - "Sky Islands"

Caldera - "Seraphim (Angel)", and the EWF interlude version:

Caldera, with Dianne Reeves - "Ancient Source"

I transferred my vinyl copy over ten years ago and I'm very happy with my copy. I've had on my ipod for over 5 years. I'm happy they considered (FINALLY) releasing on CD, one of my favorite albums of all time.

My uncle worked at the phone company in New Orleans. He had to fix the phones at WYLD radio station. He knew someone there and gave him a bunch of vinyl. He didn't like them so he gave them to me. In the bunch was Gene Harris "Tony Tantrum," Natalie Cole, "Thankful," and Caldera, "Sky Islands," and a few others that I can't recall.

I fell in love with this album! When I think about it, I was 11/12 and I totally got it! I still play to this day and own several copies. I hope someone else feels the same when they hear it. It's a true Quiet Storm staple and needs to be appreciated. Great work by Larry Dunn!

I might get this, just because. music

biggrin Great story --I was about the same age when I first heard it, and it became an instant favorite...
