Björk Brings Biophilia Live Show To New York
January 6, 2012
During a 10-day residency in New York City from Feb. 3 to March 2, the Icelandic artist will perform six shows at the Hall of Science and four at the Roseland Ballroom.
The performances, specifically designed to reflect Bjork's latest album, Biophilia, first debuted in England as a commissioned piece by the Manchester International Festival.
The Biophilia shows in NYC will boast "an intimate setting with no audience member more than a few yards from the stage." Some custom-made instruments that will be used live include four 10-foot harps, a MIDI-controlled pipe organ and "twin musical Tesla coils."
Bjork's taste for combining science and art will also make its way into a classroom of sorts. A three-week long engagement, also with NYSCI, will offer science and music workshops for middle-school students.
Kids will use the Biophilia App and other interactive tools to study the scientific concepts--"crystalline structures, lunar phases, viruses"--behind the album, as well as learn about the connection between music and nature.

Wow, the Hall of Science is only a ten minute drive from where I live, if that long. It's practically across the street from Citi Field. It would be interesting to see a show there.

Is this this start or the end of her tour? I'm confused... Space for sale...

She initially played a string of UK shows last summer to promote the album. The NYC gigs are an additional leg of the tour.

Cheapest tickets are $75 before all the fees. Yikes. I was thinking about going to more than one show, but not anymore. One will have to do.
