Of the albums you listed, those are the only three I liked.

But you missed a very important album from 1979. My personal favorite album from 1979.

How could you forget?

In my opinion, this album was better than at least half of Prince's 80s albums. Not a bad song on here, imo (though I don't *love* "Still Waiting").

Well, I tried to compile a list of the greatest, most influential and legendary albums. This album is a non-classical for me, though is in the top 10 favorite albums of 1979.

From this year, I absolutely adore The Wall. This is the best Pink Floyd album, in my opinion. smile

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Really? wink 1977 was successful for David Bowie, two very decent albums.

Not bad albums:
Scorpions - Taken By Force
Ramones - Leave Home
Billy Joel - The Stranger
Queen - News of the World
ABBA - The Album
Bonnie Tyler - The World Starts Tonight
Foreigner - Foreigner

Pink Floyd released one of my least favorite albums in their discography. mad

It was not a great year, although not bad, IMHO!

Well, depending on your taste 1977 was arguably the year that punk/new wave broke and it gave rock music a big kick in the ass.

There were some great debuts in 1977:

Sex Pistols-Never Mind the Bollocks...

The Damned-Damned Damned Damned

The Clash-The Clash

Elvis Costello-My Aim is True

Talking Heads-'77

The Jam-In the City

The Stranglers-Rattus Norvegicus

Motorhead-Motorhead

Well, yes, 1977 was not great for rock music, which I prefer.

Although the releases of the Sex Pistols and The Clash are very good. smile

In general, 70s - a great decade in music, so there was not a weak year.
were great, very good or just good.

Great one!

i mean the 70's in general i think EVER year was grear...

but 79 had such a crazy mix, it was the end of disco. the prime of punk, funk was huge, rock was huge, Metal was growing slowly, Singer songwriters where still everywhere. Soul, R&B, Country, Bluegrass & folk where alls till big to.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Good music doesn't need to break into the Top 40--it has always been around and always will. You just have to search for it. It can be as immediate and local as the next music festival of your choice. wink

What a great crossroads year for music -- disco's last moments of popular success, and several acts on the cusp of megastardom release standout albums (one of whom, MJ, released a timeless classic). Even the novelty songs were pretty cool. And of course, rap music bubbling just underneath the surface. Great year for popular music.

Those who came of age in that generation were truly blessed as far as music is concerned and took it for granted.
