Jaheim- Aint Leavin Without You This cat right here is criminally underrated its not even funny sounding like a 2011 Teddy Pendergrass

The bass line on this song is killer.
Jaheim may have Teddy's voice but not his style...
Jaheim is good though. He needs better management and promotion. Some people tell me I've got great legs...

Jaheim has really done quite well even with the half-hearted promotion his albums get. He has a very strong fanbase. I believe all of his albums have been certified Gold, except for the last one. And, last time I checked, it was close to certification. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

I don't like alot of today's R&B,but I like this song. It's funky, uptempo and catchy. This is better than any other song that I heard by Jaheim.

BADLY
I'm glad he cut his hair though.. for a more mature look. Nobody can never have Teddy's style but I think maybe he could go for a more sophisticated style instead of a thuggish one. It seemed for this latest album he tried to go that route.
I think he has one of the best voices of his generation

Here's hoping we hear more music from Jaheim in 2012.

^^ Nowadays, when you hear a great bassline or a great hook in a song,it usually turns out to be a sample

Not sure what it is about him but he works my nerves. Maybe because he seems much older than he is. Also, it's like he missed his time. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

One of the few R&B songs I downloaded this year.
I like it - very 90's. | |

His talents probably would have been more widely appreciated in the 70's and 80's. Jaheim is solely dependent on this voice. Unlike most of his peers, he doesn't use any other props. No fancy dancing, no rapping, no tabloid scandals. Just pure vocal talant. Unfortunately, that doesn't always get you very far in today's music industry. But, as I stated earlier, he already has 4 Gold albums under his belt. There are many folks in the industry who have been around a lot longer than he has and don't have 4 back-to-back Gold certified albums. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! Jaheim has a distinct voice but I guess I'm in the minority when I say I simply don't see how he sounds like Teddy Pendergrass. None whatsoever. Teddy's voice was stronger and more soulful IMO. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I just want to bust out with the De La Soul rhyme when I hear this.
I love Jahiem's voice, he slays a lot of the young cats who are popular but can barely sing. It's a shame.

Yeah, he doesn't sound like Teddy at all "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

This is a great track. I started a thread about it a while back myself. This is the kind of R&B that should be all over R&B radio instead of that dance music madness that these pop R&B stars are trying to use their skin color to validate. We know that shit ain't R&B and we aren't listening to it. THIS is R&B.

Its really ashame... that the industry is fucked up so bad that even if you have talent and make good material you still wont get but so far...you have to drop clothes and sell bullshit to get hits...

^hmnn, I wonder if that is WHY the Industry is in the shape it's in? I.E. they pushed for the quick & dirty money, now there's no real talent (and the target audience has no concept of talent) and therefore its hard to really set apart and/or set a high standard for the product....because the "product" is so "cheap" and manufactured and dispensable as are the so-called artists.
The industry did it to itself!

Most of the interviews I've read with Jaheim, he seems to credit Luther Vandross as his main musical influence. But, you can definately tell Teddy was probably an influence on him. The reason why people compare the two is because they both have that deep, sexy voice. But, does Jaheim sound like Teddy? No. Jaheim has his own, very unique sound. I can't compare him with anyone. I hate it when people do that, saying this person sounds like another. People used to say Vesta Williams sounded like Chaka. No she didn't. The influence was definately there but they didn't sound alike. Vesta had her own individual sound. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Now you know you betta preach!!!
I agree... the target audience for mainstream which consists of kids, teens, and young adults dont because they have been constantly forced fed bullshit so they cant tell the difference. It makes NO SENSE why Jaheim didnt get at least one grammy nomination... just insane. Find My Way Back and this song did very well on R&B stations.
And your right the industry did do it to itself!
Sad

Your right. NOBODY I MEAN NOBODY can beat or come close to Teddy but you can definitly hear his influence on Jaheim and they do have the same deep sexy voice like you said.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I agree! I wish more of today's R&B sounded like this song.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
this is the type of 'real' R&B that you won't hear from someone like Chris Brown or Usher.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Actually, that's not quite true. Those artists CHOOSE to go the pop route. Usher could make decent enough R&B music but CHOOSES to sell out his audience.
They are part of the problem by choice.

Several years ago, I saw Usher performing a grown-up song on some show and I was really impressed at what a nice voice he has. It was just beyond me why everything I'd ever heard from him on wax sounded so horrible? I guess it's just a matter of him choosing to go with a sound that teeny-boopers are going to buy versus recording quality music.
And I'm really digging that "Take Your Hand" track. [Edited 1/1/12 17:02pm] "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

^^^ Usher use to make R&b music but it was never on the scale of Jaheim's.
Jaheim makes grown peoples music like PASS 30 kind of music LOL
I use to love Take Your Hand. Usher really SOLD OUT... dayum.
