No official word but I'm hearing accidental overdose. She was sufferring from insomnia and had bouts of depression in the past. The two often times go hand-in-hand. And if you are not sleeping, it's very easy to accidentally overdose if you take the wrong combinations or too much insomnia medication.

That is why it is SO IMPORTANT to check with a pharmacist and online yourself if you are taking multiple medications as a lot of us have to for various reasons as we get older (not old!). For instance, I have to take several medications for allergies I didn't have to a few years ago and I'm really vigilant about medications that might not mix with other ones. I also suffer from insomnia sometimes. I will be tuning in for this episode.

*EURweb has exclusively learned the cause of death of R&B singer Vesta Williams, who died in her sleep in a California hotel room on Sept. 22, 2011.

Singer Norwood Young received word from members of Vesta’s family that the beloved singer passed away from complications of an enlarged heart. The Williams family was given the autopsy report a “day or two ago” according to Young.

“Although it’s a sad situation overall, it’s great news to find that Vesta’s death, as I said from the very beginning, was not drug related,” Young , who was a good friend of the R&B singer, told EUR’s Lee Bailey. “Vesta did indeed die from an enlarged heart. As we know, an enlarged heart can remain undetected in the body for many, many years.”

Young said that obesity and stress may have also contributed to the beloved 53-year-old R&B singer’s untimely death.

In recent years, Vesta had battled with a drug problem and obesity. She beat both–and lost 100 pounds. The singer is best known for her top ten singles “Once Bitten, Twice Shy,” “Don’t Blow a Good Thing,” and “Congratulations.”

Asked if Vesta was taking medication for the heart condition, Young said no.

“One thing about an enlarged heart, eight out of 10 deaths are sudden,” Young pointed out.

“This news could not come at a more appropriate time,” said Young, who added that Vesta’s life and career will kick off a series of TV One specials entitled “Unsung,” that will air on January 2, 2012 at 10pm Eastern time.

Young, who was recently signed to E.D.M. Records and is in negotiations to star in a reality show, said that Vesta was always very appreciative of her fans.

“I hope her fans will continue to keep Vesta in their hearts and minds and to know that she loved her fans very, very much.”

Didn't someone on the Vesta thread hinted Vesta may have died of heart problems? This basically confirms it. Thank God it wasn't drugs though. sad

I do know that certain medications can cause or increase the risk of heart damage, especially if used over a long term period. I just cant remember which ones. I remember a few years ago, I asked my doctor to prescribe me an appetite suppresant and she told me "NO WAY" because that stuff can cause damage to my heart. So we all need to be very careful of what we are taking and be aware of the side effects. When a doctor prescribes you pills, do your own research. These doctors don't always have your best interests at heart.

This is so true and I hope that people practice this in their lives. At least we know that Vesta died from natural causes...but if she had known about her underlying condition she might not have taken some of the medications she was using. These days, people have to be their own medical advocates.

So she most likely died of a lethal heart rhythm. The enlarge heart could have been caused by years of obesity.

I saw Vesta on an old Monique show about Divas and in her interview Vesta discussed the song Congratulations.

She seemed to be hurt and bitter about a lost love that occured AFTER the release of that song.

She even sung the song so differently (more hostility) than in the video that was released during the 80s.

So I thought Vesta was pretty bitter about this lost love. For her to die within weeks of this tv taping... I hope she was able to find peace and love about her life.

I can't wait to see the Unsung new season.
