R. Kelly- Happy People Interview

I threw in the When A Woman Loves interview to.... both great interviews but...

I never know what to make of ole Robert, i am a big R. Kelly fan from his work with Public Announcement to the great Love Letter album last year. He has had some VERY bumpy roads musically, and sometimes he comes off a bit simple minded, and at other times very smart and having a great knowledge of music.

With his new Black Panties album, it seems he is trying hard to get in the club circuit and trying to get abother top 40, yet in Happy People he say's he is just doing music for him & not to compete with others. He contridicts himself a lot, and i think on some albums he is like yeah i want to just do me, and others it's about hit & bangers. How do you explain going from U Saved/Prayer Change to I'm A Flirt & that GOD Awful, piece of shit, disgustingly bad, boring, bland Untitled album. That album ugh.... wtf Robert lol

Any who, i think R. Kelly is a great producer & he can sing his ass off, he put both feet in that Love Letter album. And i wish he would go in a more blues/jazz/Doo-Wop direction...

He has already had over 30 top 40 hits... is that not enough lol

When u have done it all & so gifted as he is.Its hard to keep focus on one thing. Prince has that problem of being just too gifted....

Cuz everybody wants a hit. Prolific artists change their tune everytime the wind blows. He actually did complete another "Love Letter" album (maybe even 2), but his focus shifted back to "12 Play" mode. I can take/leave some of the stuff from "Double Up" & "Untititled", but there's something I like on all of his albums, but when he shares the production duties with others, his work almost always stands head & shoulders above other writers/producers tunes.

Thank you for the response smile althogh i highly disagree with Untitled i just dislike that album...

I think Kells holds back a lot, he has made some downright awful music, especially when he decided to use auto-tune. But R. Kelly is a great writer, he has written some clever, deep, and romantic songs. He is versatile when he wants to be, and is a great producer to.

I love 12 Play, TP2 had some fantastic songs & TP3 was a dud to me. I just think i have had enough of the 12 Play series lol
