I find most of these covers hideous. The only ones I really loved so far were Sign O The Times, Nevermind and Dark Side Of The Moon. Born To Run & In Rainbows are ok, too.

I'll also add Prince's Dirty Mind, Lotusflow3r and MPLSound (I know those last two are hated).

Also, The Beatles Abbey Road and John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band

And Ryan Adams' Gold, Jacksonville City Nights and Ashes and Fire

Oh, and this would probably make most people's worst lists, but I like it:

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Gorgeous and interesting covers! Music downloads are fast & easy, but it's great to have an actual album in your hand, with all the images, the song info & lyrics. Also liked going to a record store and just looking at all the albums and maybe discovering something just because the album cover looked intriguing.

Some great ones have already been posted, but here's a few more (sorry if there's repeats - I can't see some of the ones posted):

...why do I get the feeling that this has turned into a "favorite albums" display instead of "great album covers" as the O.P. intended???

lol ...actually, alot of you have posted really good album covers!

wink

Anyway...here's some other great album covers;

Yeah, I get the same feeling that some are included because they like the album itself - the cover is not so arresting. But also agree that most covers here have their own artistic value, and some are so riveting they could get me to buy it without knowing any of the songs.

The best covers have stand-alone artistic merit PLUS convey a sense of the music contained inside. "Rio" does that. Also, I liked seeing "London Calling" next to "Elvis Presley" - now I see how London Calling is an amazing album cover - the statement that it's making, that's so what the album is about. Roxy Music had wonderful, artistic covers - and even more so when you see them in context w/ each other. Similarly, The Cars albums up to Heartbeat City had a cohesiveness to the artwork and conveyed a lot of the type of sound the band was about.
