Paul Weller's New Album, Sonik Kicks (Mar 2012)

November 22, 2011

Paul Weller has announced that he will release his 11th solo studio album Sonik Kicks in March next year.

The album will be released on March 26 and contains a total of 14 tracks.

It also includes guest appearances from Noel Gallagher and Blur's Graham Coxon. You can hear a track from the album, which is titled 'Around The Lake', by visiting the singer's official website Paulweller.com. The track is also available to be purchased now via iTunes.

The album, which is the follow-up to his critically acclaimed, 2010 album Wake Up The Nation, will apparently include "pop art punch with soulful communication, jazzy explorations into psychedelia and dub with razor-sharp melodies, abstract soundscapes with clear-eyed forest-folk".

Weller has also announced two new London shows to promote the album's release. He will headline the UK capital's Roundhouse venue on March 18 and 19, with support from Baxter Dury. Weller will perform 'Sonik Kicks' in full at both shows.

The track listing for Sonik Kicks is as follows:

'Green'
'The Attic'
'Kling I Klang'
'Sleep Of The Serene'
'By The Waters'
'That Dangerous Age'
'Study In Blue'
'Dragonfly'
'When Your Garden's Overgrown'
'Around The Lake'
'Twilight'
'Drifters'
'Paperchase'
'Be Happy Children'

Dang, another album? He sure isn't slowing down in his advancing years. I quite liked the last two, hopefully this one will be good too.

Sounds like it might be quite similar to "Wake Up The Nation", judging by those words used to describe the album's sound. I really loved the jazzier "22 Dreams", i think that album will become a bit of a classic. His vocals have gone downhill since around 2000 though, sounds a bit sloppy these days, still be interested to hear this though.

We're here, might as well get into it.

i'm always excited to hear paul weller's latest efforts! the bloke is a legend!.. i love that he's still inspired after all these years & can put something pretty decent together. i think it's a shame that his voice lets him down nowdays, he's sounds a bit 'neil diamondy'

a combination of age & too many cigs

i remember when i was only about 15 me & my mate going to some studios, blagging our way in to see him. we made him a birthday cake, his mum let us in & we had to make him a cuppa! lol the things we do as kids!

anyone not familiar with his back catalogue, take the time to check it out, too many cool melodies, he's truly cool & gifted without being up himself.

Paul Weller: ''Sonik Kicks' Will Be Groundbreaking"

December 24, 2011

Paul Weller has revealed more about his forthcoming 11th solo studio album Sonik Kicks, which is set for release in March next year.

Speaking in a video interview, Weller said of the record:

"It’s very electronic sounding…good melodies, quite experimental in places. I don’t think there’s anything else around that sounds like it. It’s quite unique sounding, personally. Groundbreaking maybe, possibly. For me it is."

The record, which features guest vocals from Noel Gallagher and Graham Coxon, is the follow-up to his critically acclaimed, 2010 album Wake Up The Nation.

When asked about any pressures from the success of his Mercury-nominated record, Weller replied: "When you get a good reaction to a record, if anything, they inspire me to do better next time. It’s nice to have a bit of recognition or a little pat on the back, because it just makes you think, 'Well, I’m doing something right'." You can hear a track from the album, called 'Around The Lake' by visiting Paulweller.com.

Paul Weller also quelled any hopes that The Jam might one day reform, telling NME: "Personally, I’m not one for nostalgia. What’s gone is gone. You can’t recapture that time."
