Happy Birthday to THE MASTER...definitely tied with P, MJ & P-Funk as being my biggest musical influence. Thanks for all you and EWF have done for the world of music, man. Would NOT be the same without ya! A few of my faves from Maurice & the Elements of The Universe. The One from Illumination (2005) Earth, Wind & Fire from Spirit (1976) Lady Sun from Raise! (1981) Dance, Dance, Dance (1983) Sweet Sassy Lady from Electric Universe (1983) Exiles of the Nation

Reese is a giant, trendsetter, a force of nature. Regrettably, he limits public appearances and seldom grants interviews.

Yep....He has been fighting it for years....I would think probably as far back as late 80s/early 90s......
On the Live in Japan DVD (1990), Reese is playing the Kalimba in a solo, and if you look carefully you can see his hands trembling here and there....so who knows how far back he has been dealing with it, and just didnt know...
Last time I saw Maurice at an event was the Monster tie-in early in Jan this year, when Stevie went up on stage to sing Shining Star with Phil, Maurice was up there too...he didnt sing, but mouthed along to the words...before that, he was at a David Foster concert sometime I think in Oct 2010.....
Tough disease to fight.....nonetheless, a great, great pioneer in the music industry...one of the very best at what he did....

Wow... 70. I have so much appreciation for this man and the music he's created. "Gratitude" and "Spirit" in particular pulled me through some pretty challenging times. I wish for Maurice comfort, and stable health.

One of the best songwriters and band leaders of all time.
And I always loved the clarion tone of his voice - his pitch was so clear.
