Who will be next Aretha Franklin?

WHO WILL BE THE NEXT ARETHA FRANKLIN?
La La Vazquez Anthony asked the most important diva-related question of all time tonight on the VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul red carpet: which performer is destined to be the next Aretha Franklin? Keeping in mind that each performer is talented in his or her own way, plus there will never be another Aretha Franklin, the clearly crowd favorite seemed to be the one and only Mary J. Blige. That being sa...id, you can’t deny singers like Jennifer Hudson, Jill Scott and Jessie J offer some strong, sassy, well-coiffed competition. What do you think? Who should be graced with the title of The Next Aretha?

Which diva is destined to be the next Aretha Franklin?

Mary J. Blige
Jennifer Hudson
Jessie J
Jill Scott
As amazing as these ladies are, clearly the next Aretha is...

Agree....Simple minded people and artists of today dont understand that LOL

If I was out now I would NEVER want to be compare to any legend.. I would want someone to tell me that I am bringing something new to the game that had not been brought instead of suggesting I am going to be the next duplicate of ANOTHER artist LOL

You ever notice, like Michael, they always trying to find the "new queen of soul". First it was Chaka, then it was Natalie, then it was Patti, then Whitney, then Mary, etc. and I recall Jill was also supposed to be the "new queen of soul". It's like "for real?"

Well...I get everyones point...But history does show the Media & Especially Music-Critics comparing the Legends of the day to the new Crop of Entertainers...Passing the torch is something the Media will continue to Hype-up till the end of time...

We all know Mary J. has proven worthy of the title "Queen of Hip-Hop Soul". 30yrs from now someone will be asking "Who will be the next Mary J.?"

Mary J. Blige is the new Aretha Franklin lol just like Timbaland is the new Quincy Jones,Justin Timberlake is the new Michael Jackson,Rihanna is the new Donna Summer,Maxwell is the new Marvin Gaye, etc, etc, etc.

See how ridiculous that sounds? falloff There will never be a "new" Aretha Franklin.Legendary artists can't be replaced or duplicated.Current artists shouldn't even try to become the 'next' anybody. It's a losing battle.

I love some of the artists mentioned, but an Aretha Franklin does not come along very often. She is imitated but not duplicated because so many singers cannot capture the intangibles Aretha brought to the game. By intangibles I am referring to Aretha's vocal phrasing that can capture so much feeling and so much soul. There are great singers who just cannot pull that off.

An example of this is in her song "Call Me" one of the lines she sings says:

"My dearest, my dearest of all darling, I know, I know, I know

I know we've got to part" .

Hell I listen to that one line and I know why she is still THE QUEEN.

Another overlooked aspect of Aretha's talent is that she can compose from the piano bringing in those gospel roots. My favorite all-time song by Aretha is "Don't Play That Song For Me". That is young Aretha at her best and you really have to study Aretha when she was young to see what all these younger singers are aspiring to be.

I am sure another Aretha is out there somewhere but imo they are not quite ready to be handed the torch.

If they can come up with a piano ballad like this and sing ever so sultry, then we can say they're the "next Aretha":

Who said Whitney was a Queen of Soul? One of her obsessed fans? lol Don't ever recall anyone in the media or the industry bestowing that title upon her. She's always been more Pop than Soul/R&B.
