The Band ABC

Anyone a fan? was jamming to them today, i always liked them. Martin Fry was like a mix of David Bowie meets Smokey Robinson. With New Wave meets old school...

Also very theatrical to

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen

Big fan of ABC. The Lexicon of Love is one of the greatest pop records ever recorded -- a landmark for ABC and for producer Trevor Horn. They had such a lush sound. The theatrics of their videos just added to that sound. I think they stumbled a bit with Beauty Stab, but rebounded quite well with How To Be A Zillionaire! and Alphabet City. Wish that sound had stayed around a while longer. They (mainly Martin Fry) put together a pretty good album about three years ago (Traffic) that virtually no one heard. I believe it was produced by Gary Langan, who was an associate of Trevor Horn (co-founded ZTT Records and was a member of Art of Noise).

I liked ABC "Poison Arrow" is my favorite but they were very underrated and underappreciated. They had hit records but they should have been as big as Duran Duran.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I dig several of ABC's songs.. they have some clever.. lyrics

like this below from "date stamp":

"I get sales talk

from sales assistants

when all I want to do girl

is lower your resistance

everything is temporary

written on that sand

looking for the girl

who meets supply with demand"

back in the early 80s

they had a.. "sophisticated

(& sometimes funky)

pop sensibility"..

I also really dig "tears are not enough"

1 of their funkiest songs

"exuses

have their uses

but now they're all used up

all used.."

also "be near me"

"how to be a millionaire" ("I've seen the future.. I can't afford it..")

as well as "poison arrow" & of course "the look of love"

right on, ABC.

I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

"'Perdoneme me llamo Neil"

""Martin, maybe one day you'll find true love."

Neil talked bout how much the PSB respected ABC and was excited that he found a way to use his in a song in a way to honor them.

I could tell they would be 2 bands that respected each other. Imagine him & Martin... having conversations in these great british accents haha i love it.
