Moog/ARP lines
I've been obsessing over those distinctive synthesiser leads used in the style of P-Funk, Stevie, Isley Brothers, R. Kelly etc., one classic example being Isleys' For The Love of You.
Spent hours trying (and failing) to recreate this harmonious use of the Moog by Bobby Ross Avila:

Are you Arxter from MJJC? You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Cool. I was "double D" over there. I guess you can figure out what that stands for. A few that come to mind. "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

It's a very good docu, one of my favourites along with the recent Fender Rhodes film.
Speaking of the two:

You guys posted some great samples of these machines at work. I will also check out these films you referenced. I too love the sounds they can produce.

Great finds!
I loved the short segment about the fender rhodes discussion in Electric Miles and I was hoping they extended on that.

Thanks for the tip on that Miles film.
Still can't escape the Rhodes/synth twosome, here with one of the most classic ARP lines:

Cheers for the welcome, Tony. Lovely selections. P-Funk and especially Bernie Worrell have no doubt been a huge inspiration for funk keyboardists, especially especially with synth bass. Here's Bernie on the Moog jaming with his band The Woo Warriors:

One thing about Off The Wall/Thriller/Bad, is the fact that all of these albums are ensemble session musicians haven. All of the who's who in the jazz fusion scene showed out in there, even if Quincy kept soloing into a minimal.
