Also, in many of these appearances, Brian was just a circus attraction, he was taken on tour by his band mates just to get people attending the concerts to see the "fat, out of his mind freak". It was very, very sad. The family just trying to get more dollars from the genius.

that's completely subjective, just a cynical rant

proof? evidence?

Oh. popcorn

Just because this isn't what you have read about it/what you think, it's a cynical rant? Of course, I won't bother discussing it after you have put the issue in these terms.

I'll just give you one source as an example. You can read one of the best recent researches on The Beach Boys, Bendita Locura: la tormentosa epopeya de Brian Wilson y los Beach Boys, by José Ángel González Balsa. Here you can read about how Brian was forced, even physically, especially by Mike Love, to sign the contracts of their live performances.

End of the discussion! thumbs up!

The Beach Boys are awesome...Being who I am here in the A., most people give me the side eye when I say Brian & the crew are one of my biggest influences...but they always kept it real. As I mentioned in the appreciation thread for Dennis on his 67th BDay, some give them flack for being clean cut when they 1st came out,but ain't nothing clean cut about the surfing lifestyle...Hell, U could die anytime out there...for real. U couldn't pay me to get out there the way you're supposed to do it.I can't swim...LOL. (Dennis was the only real surfer in the band)

Maybe their name was a blessing & a curse...They were originally called The Pendletones, after the shirt. If it wasn't for some cat who recorded their first song, they wouldn't have their name.

The reason why I posted the videos I did on both the Dennis thread & earlier on this thread was for those who don't think they should be mentioned in the same sentence as The Beatles & The Stones...

They kicked ass...they weren't raunchy on record (Dennis was @ times, solo, though), but they never sugarcoated their lives one bit... Maybe this anniversary will help the younger generation really "get" what they were all about...There was a lot of humanity & passion in their music, something you don't see alot of nowadays.

RRA

Great news. I bought The Smile Sessions when they came out, and I adore it.

So yes, from the late 60s when some of the greatest, most influential pop music albums were being recorded, we can officially add yet another gem from that epoch.

don't understand why you're so stubborn/touchy about this, but I'll post two clear examples:

1977 tour

http://www.youtube.com/wa...fDFee-GgU8

1985 live Aid

http://www.youtube.com/wa...f6vVt0cLnM

Brian did the 77-78 tour, and then the 85-86 dates, including LiveAid, AND he co-wrote/co-produced some albums and MANY songs of the 68-85 period...

the media has treated the 67-88 Brian as a lunatic who couldn't even leave his california house due to his sickness, and that was insulting, silly and just plain innacurate...

evidence...

but IT'S TRUE that Brian did NOT tour during the 66-74 era, at least I'll buy you that

oh yeah, the famous Live Aid tour, it spread over 12 continents and lasted at least 7 years

Brian didn't fully tour with them in 1977, he made some sporadic appearances every now and then.

no. tour. what is there not to understand?

Has anyone tried unplugging the United States and plugging it back in?

Check out http://smileysmile.net
Its kind of like "The Org" for everything Beach Boys.

Meanwhile, here's a couple of trax I've been feeling lately..

"Heroes & Villains" from 1967's Smile (recently finally released as "The Smile Sessions") This is a new cartoon music video for it.

"Wind Chimes" from 1967's Smiley Smile, original version on "Smile". This is a crazier, spookier version of the song.
