Sly Stone Or Aretha's "Everyday People"

I don't know. I was never able to get into Sly & the Family Stone, so I prefer Aretha's version.

Is this really a question?

I was 7 when Aretha put her's out and it was one of the worst things she ever did (she redeemed herself with "Ever Changing Times" though) so SLY!

Oh good heavens....its all about Sly. His version is the bomb. I dunno what Aretha is thinking here. Love her but she can't successfully remake every damn thing.

You want a good sample? Arrested Development's Everyday People is awesome!

NOW WE'RE TALKING! highfive

That's a better comparison. I still go with Sly's but Arrested Development's was damn good. biggrin Even so it wasn't even a cover but an interpolation but still with the same message. smile

Aretha's reign as the "remake queen" was over by the time she did her version. Whitney had took her spot (I know kitbradley but it's the truth biggrin ). wink

Yeah, you are right. She did take Aretha's spot, if only for a brief moment.lol

I knew this topic would cause a stir because I know most of her fans not only hated this song, they hated the entire "What You See Is What You Sweat" album! I was listening to it in the car yesterday. It's an album that I revist every now and then and I honestly don't see what's so horrible about it. She did much worse back in the 70s.

Because Aretha fans hate new jack swing. lol They thought Aretha sold out. Same thing when Stevie did Jungle Fever (which had a lot of new jack on it). Some Stevie fans thought the Wonder Man had finally lost his damn mind. lol But while Stevie had some gems, I think there was only two on Aretha's I actually dug ("Doctor's Orders" and "Ever Changing Times"). That said she was looking finer than wine during this era. biggrin Unfortunately that wasn't to last. sigh

Are you kidding me? There are no Sly remakes that supercede the original versions!

I prefer Sylvester Stewarts version.

I think he should do his stuff and she should do her own stuff.

They are both music icons.

There must be a reason why...
I don't know.
