Best Original Song - Motion Picture

Congrats to them both. I like both of their songs.

Wow. Masterpiece got a nod. It's a great song.

I saw Madonna's W.E. over the weekend, here, in LA. I went in with low expectations and ready to cringe. The last Madonna movie I attempted to watch was Evita and I ended up walking out of that one. All I can say is that I was pleasantly surprised. Twenty minutes into the movie I was completely into the story that I forgot that I had prepped myself for some cringe-worthy scenes. But, no. The whole movie flowed really well. Andrea Riseborough who plays Wallis Simpson is captivating. You can't take your eyes off her. The film is beautifully shot. I think, maybe, Madonna took her cues from her video work with David Fincher, back in the day. The score (which also got a nomination) is really haunting and beautiful. Yes, there are some heavy-handed scenes, but really, which movie these days doesn't. No, it's not the best film ever but it's entertaining and I definitely give Madonna props for pulling it off.

Glenn Close had the original lead role as Norma Desmond in the American musical adaptation of Sunset Boulevard. She won a Tony for that role. She has also appeared in other Broadway musicals.

"Evita" was her best film... and I'm not ashamed to admit it so fuck a box.

Well, to be fair I walked out of "Wicked" too. I just don't like musicals. The only movie I liked Madge in was "A League of Their Own." But, thankfully, her lack of acting skills were not required for "W.E." But I don't know. I'm not an actor. Do you have to know how to act in order to direct?

Actually Madonna appeared in some really good movies: "Desperately Seeking Susan", "Who's That Girl", "Dick Tracy" (I actually loved her role in that movie), "A League of Their Own", "Evita" and even her bit part in "Girl 6" was good. She might not have the talents of a thespian but in the few roles I liked to see her in, she pulled it off. She actually fits more in comedy and musicals than she does in dramas and thrillers ("Body of Evidence" was only good because she was nude in it lol).

I've seen "Desperately Seeking Susan" and "A League of Their Own." And I'd forgotten about "Girl 6," which I of course ran out to see because of the Prince soundtrack. Back when I used to support all of Prince's projects.

But as for Madonna. I was always under the impression that she was a terrible actress because of the press. With the exception of the three movies I've seen, I never really knew. Which is why I was surprised and really, really pleased with "W.E." I was expecting a stinker considering the lukewarm reviews it's received at the various film festivals. But I think the hatred for Madge overshadowed the movie. IMO.
