But,seriously,'Beat Street' is a kickass movie...
***GREAT STORY---Unlike 'Breakin' or 'Krush Groove','Beat Street' actually has a strong, meaty storyline. Each character has some kind of "mission" they're trying to accomplish. The ending is tragic though. ***GREAT CAST--Rae Dawn Chong is sexy as hell...lol...and the other actors did a great job too. Most of these people seem to be real "actors" and not just a bunch of rappers posing as the real thing. ***GREAT SOUNDTRACK---I love the song "Beat Street Strut" bu Juicy, and throughout the film,we also get to hear "Beat Street Breakdown","This Could Be The Night",even "I.O.U" by Freeze! The great songs play non-stop. ***BREAKDANCING SCENES---I love the nightclub sequence with that LONG,LONG breakdancing scene. That's amazing!! Finess, please go watch this movie again

Krush "grove" is where EVERYBODY came correct&they all hit theirMARK in the RAP game. These cats&the music at THE time were untouchable.RNB owes& a lot to these fellas. You cant denytheir & influence on the music game. KG is tight. "Climb in my fur."

they did Yeah,it's obvious that this movie was hastily thrown together.Warner Bros. saw that 'Purple Rain' was such a big success,so they said "Let's quickly make a rap musical that could be the 'Purple Rain' of 1985.And for good measure, let's get Prince involved. We'll let his protege Sheila E. co-star and we'll have him write and produce two songs". But,having said that,I must admit I do like this movie, well, certain scenes.Sheila E. is surprisingly good as an actress, imo.

I admit its cheesy as hell but it is endearing t me..got the Fat Boys, Kurtis, Run DMC on the verge of blowin up "large" (lol), every damn rap old school star from that time period (almost). And New Edition heh.But my fav scenes are the Sheila scenes (duh). I was always pissed they had whats his name, blonde guy on the sax adlibbing Princes parts on Love Bizarre ..that scene was dark n gritty and Purple Rainish which is what I liked lol.But thank god its not Tougher Than Leather..thank god. Your thinking too deep about this..this was simply a harder Breakin of course. Wildstyle and Beat Stret of course are more important seminal rap hip hop films. This was simply a Russel Simmons Rick Rubin story. But for what it was it was cool. Everyone&rnb&knows these cats brought it period. I applaud them&the filmakers for BRINGING the story of these rap cats&rnb&MUSIC to the world. "Climb in my fur."

Yeah, the best parts about 'Krush Groove' are the Sheila E. scenes. She's beautiful and very good in her limited role.I wonder how 'Purple Rain' would have been if she had been the love interest instead of Apollonia?

Finess, please go watch this movie again David, you're killing me! The story really wasn't any more important or meaty than Krush Groove - were you riveted by Spit or something?? LOL!! The acting was better than KG but not completely solid - the friggin' lead guy was horrible, didn't even sound/look/act street, hard to buy as a dj. That fool was a straight up actor, no better in Beat Street than he was as the bartender in Def By Temptation Ramon was overdoing it, the only decent one was the mom really I would probably enjoy the soundtrack to KG more, but I don't have either one so I really shouldn't talk about that... I'll give you the breaking scenes in Beat Street, those were fun to watch. But Sheila was NOT the best thing Krush Groove - the funniest, yes, but not the best KG is good for nostaligia, no better or worse than Beat Street, definitely more endearing IMO...

Depends - would Sheila's character have been a drummer or just the lead of a girl group? Sheila's too good for the latter, but the drumming/band angle might have been interesting to play with story-wise. As far as their chemistry, it's a coin toss...

If Sheila was playing a drummer, that would have been REALLY cool. She and her band would have given The Revolution a run for their money...lol...Billy would have been like "Damn, which band do I keep?" And this would have further complicated The Kid's relationship with Sheila.

Well, one thing I do know about this movie was that it had the brillant ballad "Tender Love" by the Force MDs {produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis}. Now that, my fellow orgers, is a splendid slice of 80's R&B/soul right there.
..HAVE MERCY!!! "Here I lay..all alone..tossing turning..longing for some of your tender love".
