Anyone else like the original movie?

I first saw it at the cinema when I was nine years old. Loved it! Even though a lot of the dialogue and song lyrics were over my head at the time.

I went to a sing-a-long airing of the film at a theater in San Francisco during the summer. I still love the soundtrack, but parts of the film were goofier than I remembered.

I certainly prefer Saturday Night Fever

that movie is still fresh, the music is pure 70s (and still great) but the themes of the movie are timeless...

I can practically quote it word for word.

My Mom took a group of us to see it when I was in 4th grade. I remember her being mortified by a couple of the scenes and the dialog, but we were bopping along to the music.

When I saw it years later, I was like, "Ohhhhhhh......".

Now I think I watch it every time it comes on cable even though I own the DVD.

Love the movie,love the soundtrack!! I swear,1978 was the greatest year.I saw this movie in theatres several times that summer and of course,I got the soundtrack too.Grease is such a large part of my youth

Love it. Classic until the end of its time. Travolta and Olivia became immortal after that film... RIP to Jeff Conaway.

***Marie Osmond was considered for the 'Sandy' role.It was John Travolta who suggested that Olivia Newton-John would be perfect.

***The role of 'Danny' was originally offered to Henry Winkler but he turned it down.He felt that it was too similiar to the "Fonzie" character that he was playing on 'Happy Days'.

Marie's then strict Mormon beliefs stopped her from taking it. Henry's cool but John had more star appeal so they picked the right guys in my honest opinion.

Honestly, no. Some of the songs are Ok as is the movie, but I never thought either of them were THAT good, and I love cheesy music and movies usually.

Not that it's worth criticising, but some of the music is meant to sound like it's time period, and it clearly doesn't ("your the one that I want" springs to mind).

Most musicals don't sound like its time period (Dreamgirls definitely spring to mind).

"You're The One That I Want" was actually intended to appeal to the disco crowd One of the songwriters said that when they wrote it,they came up with the "ooh ooh ooh!" part because it resembled many disco hits of the time.

I believe it. "Summer Nights" was designed that same way. I don't think neither song had a problem moving butts. There's a mix of these songs and "Greased Lightning" on a disco best-of lol

Marie Osmond as 'Sandy' Hell No I cant see it. Never heard Henry Winkler was considered for the role of Danny I remember reading that The actress who played Jan, one of the pink ladies, was the oldest cast member. She was in her mid 30s playing a teen in the fifties.

None of those actors were teenagers Stockard Channing ("Rizzo") was 32 years old!! Olivia was 27 years old.

Rizzo was my favorite character... even before I understood the significance of her role.

I was not a fan of Rizzo as a kid, but now that song (and her character) is one of the best parts of the movie

And the two leads are absolutely perfect. Travolta carries the dancing and OLJ carries the singing. So they complement each other perfectly.

Once this song comes on, everything gets placed on hold.

Rizzo singing "there are worse things I could do" is definitely my highlight. Another favourite song is "those magic changes" by Sha-na-na - it really takes you back to a bygone era

Back on topic, LOVE the movie! Especially the sleepover with Sandra and how everyone pays homage to that till today, Mariah did it in the Heartbreaker movie for example. And many movies and musical from all over the world still do it today from different scenes in the movie.

God, they showed this shit every fucking five minutes on HBO. My Sisters kept watching this. Now I'm fucking loving it. lol

I watch it everytime it is on, which is every day..lol

I always thought Rizzo was hotter than Aussie bitch..lol

!978 is my favorite year It's when I bought my very first 45 single (Andy Gibb's "Shadow Dancing").From that point on,I was a music fanatic....spending my allowance on records.It was such a thrilling time.Donna Summer was riding high with "Last Dance",Rick James came out with his debut album,the "Saturday Night Fever" singles were all over the charts and the radio.I'll never forget that time!
