i dont know much about the band, other than the hits, but i was shopping around for some music earlier and came across and album i noticed stevie wasnt on the record. and did some research and saw that fleetwood mac exsisted before stevie came into the picture. dont get me wrong, i love me some stevie nicks, but im REALLY digging there earlier stuff.

what are your FM albums before stevie?

Before Stevie and Lindsey. A couple weeks back I researched their history. Talk about a reinvention.

There debut is great! one of there best records actually.

The two groups are similar because the later version of the bands were way more popular than their more obscure early version and sound. It's the same with prog rock Genesis and the Invisible Touch era or Pink Floyd with Syd Barrett. Many fans of the successful eras are not aware of the early members and sound.

But there are people who HATE what people like me think of as Fleetwood Mac.

This is what they think of as Fleetwood Mac. Written by Peter Green 2 years before Santana made it their own.

They might have gone on like this, but Peter Green took way too much acid, and more or less went on a permanant trip. But for a time he was one of the great living guitar players. Now he is something of a footnote to a much more popular band.

I actually like Rumours, though, and I think it's pretty amazing how they were able to totally reinvent themselves, and so convincingly.

I like "Hynotized" but "Save Me A Place" rules too.

speaking of Fleetwood Mac,I'm hoping that I get this new book for Christmas I "hinted" to a few people that I really want it...lol...

Yeah I am not familiar with anything from that time either. I guess Christine was part of it though.

Fleetwood Mac Before Stevie Nicks?

I would argue that guitarist wiz/producer all-around madman Buckingham is the band's secret weapon, not Nicks. She might be the better songwriter but he's the linchpin that gave the band a solid musical bedrock.

It's a shame. I mean in one hand, selfishly, I guess I'm happy it occurred because that's when Stevie, Lindsey and Christine would come later (Christine came right after Peter left, the other two about two years after that), on the other hand, I wish what happened to Peter didn't happen to him. Who knew schizophrenia did that to people? Sure did it to Donny!
