I love this song, even though I just heard it for the first time earlier this year. It's so sad, I've known a few Harry Hippie's in my time. It's very sad to watch someone fade away and not be able to help them. Even worse when it gets to the point when you have to just stop trying, or when trying to help them makes them even worse.

Odd thing when it was written, it was a parody of how Harry Womack actually lived his life - apparently he lived a bohemian lifestyle. The joke turned tragic about a year after this song was released.

I've often said; many people would be amazed at the things that go by me unnoticed sometimes, lol.

It's hard for me to explain. I experience a lot of things (...for better or worse), but I often just let those experiences wash over me without picking them apart too much, before quickly moving on to the next experience. I have a habit of just taking things in sometimes without paying a lot of attention to the details. Quite often, I don't even "get" things until long after they've happened, lol. Not surprisingly, those epiphanies usually happen to me while I'm in the process of missing some other current event that's taking place, lol. Like I always manage to come up a day late and a dollar short.

I don't even remember the exact circumstances of how it is I came across "Harry Hippie", but I just remember listening to it several months ago (I believe it was on YouTube - while I was searching for something else), and the lyrics hit me like a ton of bricks! To be brutally honest, something about the song made me feel like it was about ME... like I was Harry Hippie. In reality I'm not, of course. But I'm still able to empathize with that character on a gut level. What a heart-breaking song.
