The original version of the Beasties was a punk rock band, but Ad Rock wasn't in the pre-rap version. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

People really aren't letting this go
Lets all blame the evil white man seems ot be the easiest way out, every white artists every born into creation has stolen from blacks. Is this what people want others to admit? Did Slayer still from Little richard to? Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Now me and you both know that the point that I made goes BEYOND songwriters races. So I think its silly that you brought that up to equate that as being the same when it isnt... AND sadly if you missed the big picture that was presented I cant help you with that.. Futhermore, this isnt about those black acts and they werent given credit for something they didnt do on their own AND especially if you were BLACK.. you werent getting credit for shit whether you created it or not in MOST cases...
Are you seriously implying that systematic NEVER occured during that era????????????????
Because they were not GIVEN credit for innovating or creating those things UNLIKE white entertainers during that era. Elvis wasnt the ONLY white entertainer that practiced that.. It was considered acceptable during that era because blacks still didnt have no rights and were still fighting for equal liberties... Most of all what white people adapted.. rock n roll, forms of dances etc orginated from alot BLACK innovators that NO ONE NEVER talks about and you can take that to the bank...
I just find it sickoning how alot of you are making excuses for how unfairly black people were treated during the time.. I find it very disrespectful exactly...
Because thats dumb and not accurate. Black people were playing instruments with strings before they were even brought over to America.. What the hell are you talking about????
This arguement isnt about which "race invented what first" the entire point is going over you head..
So what... Bojangles Robinson audiences were primarily whites back in the late 1800's and he portrayed in MINSTREL shoows NO brainer that the audience was primarily WHITE... the same with dorothy dandridge etc... During that period African American at some point HAD to have a core white audience in order to cross over and be successful ESPECIALLY during that period of hatred and racism towards blacks.
LOL are you serious???? The "BLUES" Black people were singing "blues" before it even became recognized as a damn musical genre LOL... this ALL goes back to slavery bro... BLACKS originally came up with the blues but it never fails America will brainwash and tell lies to cover up their dirty laundry... It seems you equate as orginating the same as popularizing but you LEAVE OUT crucial parts in the history of this and not only that "popularizing" and creating are two different things.
Black people did not have the same resources, rights, opportunities AS WHITES so I bet it would be EASY for them to popularize the genre on a RADIO STATION LOL in the 1900's. To sit here and say that Whites started the blues because they popularized it on a radio doesnt mean they originally innovated the genre. I mean NO SHIT its not suprising they would popularize it, making profit off it etc they were the mass majority and African Americans didnt have any rights or equality to do anything. What do you think their going to do? Go to court and expect a fair trial? And they damn sure cant speak out about it if they didnt want to get lynched the next day.
I mean c'mon now seriously...
I'M NOT TAKIN THE BAITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT NOPPPPPEEEE SIRRRRRYYYY NOT MEE
And why do you think that was???
First off do you know what those minstrel shows were about???
The whole concept of the play from start to finish was about DEPICTING AFRICAN AMERICANS IN THE WORSE WAY AKA RACIST PLAYS TOWARDS BLACK PEOPLE. White people dressed in all black face and their characters were the stereotypical of blacks during that time primarily depicted them as being lazy or happy go lucky uncle toms; servants that were happy in their current condition among other things... those dumb ass minstrel shows were a great influence on politics and the perception of how blacks would further be depicted in films.
What the hell do you expect a white person to say about that NOW???? There not going to say squat about it now because THEY even know how racist as crap it was That has nothing to do with Black people stealing anything from whites. The whole point was to belittle and showed prejudice against black people so how could black people possibly steal anything???
Do you think black people WANTED to play those sterotypical racist roles that depicted them in the worse way?
Those are the ONLY JOBS in HOLLYWOOD they could get during the time.. if they didnt want to mop a floor. Those are the only jobs WHITE people would GIVE them... now YOU think about that, WHY do you think that?
And plus anyway their werent a whole lot of black people that particpated ONLY a few the most well known is Bojangles which just so happens to be one of my favs tap dancers.

My only point was that he received easy credit for things that African Americans had been doing for years previously or invented because he was white... that is all. I wasnt trying to bash him. I was responding to what someone had said.
He probably did have more influences but that doesnt justify that fact... people always trying to make excuses for the truth when you cant... Many white singers/entertainers did that and got away with it..
That example of Jimi Hendrix you gave is not stealing because the MEDIA is not giving him credit for writing the song. Hendrix aint stupid... there is no way he would have ever LIED about that because he knows he wouldnt have gotten away with that LOL Like a white person would of... the FIRST thing Im sure he thought was... "wow this is a cool song LET ME ASK FOR PERMISION FIRST ASAP" Oh yea ... he did all of that plus 900...lol...
Its DIFFERENT... its DIFFERENT.. not the SAME.. the shit that black people had to go through and go through is NOT the same as white people... BECAUSE of slavery and racism. I REALLY wishthe past was not like that and even till this day but it is what it is... I just hate how people try not to acknowledge it.

the whole point is this... the rrhof, the grammys, ama, the oscars, all these shows are created to bait black artist into being angry, bitter and jealous and frustrated.how many black artist were pissed over the years because of the fact that they never recieved these stupid awards while artist like pat boone, michael bolton, kenny g, among others reap the benifits.

Exactly!!!!!!
VERY WELL SAID.. right there you hit it
LOL
I agree that the reason why WAR didnt get in THIS TIME had NOTHING to do with racism... I dont really know how this topic got brought up anyway but glad it kinda did because it has brought to light alot of things people well America rather hush hush about which people generally do with the truth anyway...
To honestly call yourself an American and sit behind your computer screen LOL and exactly type out that NONE of these award shows NEVER practiced RACISM EVER when their some of the most corrupt political full of b.s. mass gravy ish of all time ??? What are yall smoking? and your no better than the corrupt grammys. rhof for foolishly thinking that..
Theres a reason why James Brown, Marvin Gaye, etc dont have really no grammys...
Its not just based on "politics" racism is included in the math equation being that they were mostly ran and voted on by whites..
So I can UNDERSTAND why a 1970s band like WAR feels angry... and on top of that this is their SECOND time not getting in..
aint that some sh**
I mean I dont care about it and it really means nothing but its the "principle" but everything is crap nowadays anyway...

There's nothing in my comment that says whites invented the blues, but they popularized it and kept it alive when the most of black audience abandoned it for "soul" and "R&B" music. Some blues singers themselves said that they were helped out in the 1960's when beatniks started booking them at colleges and coffeehouses in the 1960s, and started making more money than they were performing in obscure juke joints. They also got a bigger audience when British acts like the Beatles, Paul Butterfield, and Eric Clapton either talked about them and/or performed their music. If you go to the average blues concert today, who is the audience? It's more whites than black.
Do you celebrate Thanksgiving? Then you are celebrating the stealing of land and genocide of the natives. Do you shop at Wal-Mart or wear Nike? Well you're supporting sweatshops. Do you eat chocolate or chew gum? Then you're supporting modern slavery. A lot of the old railroads were built by the Chinese. Japanese people were put in "camps" during WWII. You can't tell me anything about US history. I know that there were blacks living in the "new land" before Columbus "discovered" it. They were part of the Native Americans. A small percentage of Africans during the slave trade even came to the USA, the majority were taken to South America, parts of Mexico, and Hispaniola. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Those who can, do. Those who can't, talk.
Look at Latinos, they didn't just whine about whites ignoring them. The created their own TV networks, radio stations, record labels, award shows, etc. I can turn on the TV and find Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, African, etc. run channels on regular TV. I don't see any African-American ones. BET is a white owned network and on cable, so doesn't count. Why are you trying to make this a competition?
lol
Its not about whos winning or whose knows more and some information that you said you were way off on so if I were you I would brush up on my history
I find it funny that you throw anything and everything at me to trash my arguement but it has NOTHING to do with the arguement
Why are you talking about Columbus? FYI .. Columbus didnt discover America.. Native Americans did another little false lie America made up to give credit to the white man.
Why are you bringing up Thanksgiving? Chocolate? when were talking about an era in music/entertainment specifically 1920s 1950s roughly...
You bring up all these things to refute my claim.. never once admiting that its true.. I dont care you dont have to agree with me NO ONE has to agree with me LOL.. because I know the history of the REAL America.. the one the fantasy America wants to hide
ALSO
You did imply whites created "Blues" as well as popularized it
I greatly disagree that you insist black artists abandoned blues when their are alot of great black blues singers."Blues" was not as popular as R&B doesnt mean no black artists didnt sing the genre.

I dont think I am right on everything or know everything. In fact, their have been plenty of times on alot of things here Ive been corrected on by other posters and I lovveee it because I like being enlightened cause at 19 I damn sure dont know everything especially with the older artists that I love.
Why dont you take a little bit of your own advice becauase once again their were some things you said that wasnt 100% correct.
You seem to think this is about who knows more and your forgetting the BIG picture in this whole discussion. We can go for days talking about this topic..
The ONLY point that I was trying to make was that many white acts stole from black people and took alot of credit for things blacks did.. (for some weird reason you seem to not acknowledge it which shows your biasedness which you have no reason to be but its definitly underlined even people who didnt completely agree with me agreed that RACISM did exist in those forms) but watver... I dont care about the dumb RHOF or stupid ass grammys like alot of yall do...BUT thats not going to stop me from voicing my opinion on somebody being done wrong or a systematic that is not fair... I dont care but I am still going to speak on it... There is alot of things that I do that does make a difference. I dont tune into those shows or give support and your right.. I should write to them about my concerns...
Yakking and voicing your opinion on a message board is two different things but I guess its yakking two you since you failed to listen and dont agree? Ok... I didnt call your opinion as yakking so why express that to mines... Its just DISCUSSION not that serious thats why we all are here.. its a DISCUSSION BOARD. But if you cant handle it okay lol

You're just assuming. I never said there was or wasn't racism and I didn't say I cared about the Hall Of Fame or Grammys. I just came in here to say that the Beastie Boys played instruments, when the OP said they sampled only. In the other thread I even said that Alvin & The Chipmunks should be inducted. I also said that there was female baby genocide and a group getting into a museum is not important. Elvis and whites ripping off black music doesn't have anything to do with War, Beastie Boys, or the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame
It's yakking because you're only talking and not putting any effort to change what you feel is wrong. I don't care about who gets in the Hall Of Fame and not upset about who got in or who didn't, so why would I bother protesting? Since it seems to bother you, do something about it, fight for the cause. Anybody can talk, what good is it doing you? You say racism in the US is swept under the rug, and people are "whitewashed", well do something about it. Look at the women fighting for suffrage, African Americans fighting for civil rights, or women fighting to play high school and college sports in the 1970's. Carter G Woodson was one of the first to start writing about African American history. They didn't just sit around and talk, they put forth some action. Even PETA and Greenpeace gets out there, whether people like their methods or not. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Ive already said that mutiple of times and even said I dont know how the subject got brought up but since you disagree with it being related to this topic you justify and make excuses for Elvis and the prejudice against African Americans during an era where alot of blacks were snubbed because of racism ....
Ahh.. yea I have a problem with that because thats like trying to deny racism even existed in the first place. NO its not related in this case but the thread like it usually does in MOST cases changed in a different direction... so far what I get from you is since racism has nothing to do with why WAR didnt get inducted in RHOF 2011, I am going to make up excuses to shut down the possible reason blacks might not have receive their fair share of awards dued to racism because it has nothing to do with this thread... I mean seriously, WHO CARES if its not related to the topic?? lol It STILL a hidden fact in how it use to operate... thats ALL I'm saying... I already put the cards on the table and said that NO this is a off target subject BUT I am not going to sit here and deny facts that alot of posters pointed out either just because it doesnt relate in this situation.
Thats the thing... I havent ASSUMED anything LOL You have made your feelings clear... Just because racism has nothing to do with THIS particular situation doesnt mean it has NEVER happened because it HAS happened. You have made every excuse in the book to eclipse that. You have never mentioned or acknowledge the injustice against African Americans and how that affected politics in how awards were given at one point.
Once again I jumped into this conversation as well and dont think its associated with this particular topic but just because its not related doesnt mean you shut down a fact that is still true at the end of the day whether its related or not.
ALSO
Just because I show to be opinionated on alot of issues doesnt mean I am just talking and NOT doing anything about it.. you dont know shit about me... cause unlike most people things I believe in I exactly apply to my life and strive to make changes if it is something I want to make a difference in... thanks...
I dont think racism is swept under the rug but their are alot of spectrums, cracks, and factual info that America doesnt want to confront because they want us to remember it in a certain way but thats with alot of things NOT just racism and the only reason why I said that is because you have arrogantly and disrespectfully chose to not acknowledge something apart of history because you feel it is minor and not related to THIS topic when in reality RHOF have practiced it in the past

LMAO.. while I didnt agree with you I at least applaud that you acted civil through out the discussion.
And I never labeled you as anything as you did with my opinions, I just pointed out you never acknowledge that blacks experienced discrimination dued to racism in how awards were given to them because you thought it wasnt associated with the thread title.

bottom line.... we are SICK AND TIRED of rrhof doing the same lame and disrespectful shit of putting certain black artist like war, chic, Donna summer, Rufus and chaka khan on their press release, telling the world that they might induct these artist into the hall, and then turn around and clown all of them by inducting the beastie boys who have sold a lot of albums sampling their music and diss all the black artist who put in much work in thing call music.
