Classic Of The Day V

Teddy Pendergrass' "Close The Door"

This brother used to perform to Standing Room Only "For Ladies Only" concerts backed by the Teddy Bear Orchestra! He had the soul and the looks to make women wanna go too. lol

But, this song... mmm, mmm, mmm.

When you wanna get in that mood... pop this one in.

Some others by Teddy - "Turn Off The Lights" and "Love T.K.O." are deserving of their own thread too.

Still, today's classic is "Close The Door"... show Teddy the love!

Close The Door

Let me give you what you've been waiting for
Baby I got so much love to give
I wanna give it all to you

Close the door
No need to worry no more
Let's bring this day to a pleasant end
Girl it's me and you now
I've waited all day long just to hold you in my arms
And it's exactly like I thought it would be
Me loving you and you loving me

Close the door
Let me rub your back where you say it's sore
Come on get closer
So close to me
Let's get lost in each other
Come here baby

I've waited all day long just to hold you in my arms
And it's exactly like I thought it would be
Me loving you and you loving me

Close the door baby
And let me know you're mine
Plenty good lovin' all through the night
And then again and then again
When the morning comes

Wasn't it Eddie Murphy who said (in his live act) that Teddy was so bad...

(mocking his rough voice) "'You got, you got, you got what I need!!!' Shit, scared the bitches into loving him!"

lol

"I've waited all day long just to hold you in my arms"

I can't pass this line without singing alone with it. Just like Eddie Murphy does in thr Nutty Professor movie.

Good Morning Everyone,

Was out of action yesterday. Got to get caught up on some of these great threads.

This is a great pick. Vintage Teddy...one of my favorite vocalists EVER!!! His first three albums are must haves in your collection. I grew up in the 70's with my mom playing his albums so much, that I know all the lyrics..backward and forwards.

The entire 'Life Is A Song Worth Singing' album is a classic!! Side 2 of this abum was especially noteworthy...

"Close The Door"
"It Don't Hurt Now" (my personal favorite)
"When Somebody Loves You Back"

Those 3 songs are some of the most soulful, sexiest songs from the 70s period! Producers Gamble and Huff were at the top of their game, and Teddy was the ultimate male soul singer of the late 70s.

Me too! My mother used to play his albums SO MUCH,I would walk around singing the lyrics to EVERY song on the albums...lol...she also used to hang the album covers on her wall. The ladies loved Teddy back then!

On his 1979 album titled 'Teddy',there was a wonderful song called "I'll Never See Heaven Again".Lawd, that song is just amazing, truly the best thing Teddy AND Gamble and Huff have ever done.Don't know why it was never realeased as a single.
