It's also an ego trip... like a Grammy. That's all it is. For bragging rights. Why would I want bragging rights when my legacy and talent speaks for itself? Fuck outta here. If they do get in, I'll congratulate them but they don't need it. They really don't.

No. But KISS is still a perfect example nonetheless.
The key words are "rock & roll". A R&RHOF without KISS is like a Funk HOF without Cameo. It a f***ing joke, plain and simple.

KISS (well, mostly Paul & Gene) are some of the original kings of "selling out" and they're still NOT in the R&RHOF!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Like I said in the other thread, what kind of coverage and writeups did KISS get in Rolling Stone magazine? That tells you why they're not in. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I have NEVER understood the "respect" the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and The Beastie Boys get in the press.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is as biased/ridiculous as the Grammy's. Fucking high school popularity contest.

They should b more pissed that Percy Sledge and Del Shannon are in, at least Beasties and Red Hot had a career and more than one song that anyone knows. I literally just posed this on the last page but i will say it again
Wow another white hate response thread. Look war is great! But so is the beastie boys & red hot chilli peppers. Yes they where inspired by african american music and? I also ate a pickle today! Wanna talk about more shit that doesn't matter? This is about the music, they all have made great music. War is a killer funk band and they deserve there place! No doubt, the beastie boys mixed punk & rap and made it something unique. And they used samples in a very clever way and some groundbreaking videos. The chilli peppers are kings of alternative, also my aunt is a dj... said rhcp is the only group she played on every stationshe worked at. They appeal to rockers, funksters, heavy metal, even r&b. And make unique music by fantastic, respected musicians. The r&r hall of fame is a joke anyway....
But really the RHCP they where the first to play the rock & the funk like they did from an all white band. Not even the greats like The Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles. Played the funk rock by mainstrem rock artists. And they brought a lot of humor along with great ballads. Nothing wrong with making FAME a factor in the Hall of Fame. We all associated a HOF honor of any kind with merit. But it is a Hall of Fame nonetheless.
Fame is a fickle partner. And Fame has been closer to the Beasties and RHCPs lately. That's the difference.
WAR deserves its place. They broke at least as much ground as the BBs or RHCPs or GnR to name a few, and had more than enough success to justify a spot.
I think it will get in eventually. Rock and Roll critics are an exclusive bunch. In more ways than one.

LOL that is an incredibly obvious, yet strangely overlooked point.
RHCP & Beasties are simply more famous than War. Like the Grammy's there is some merit involved in their choices, but clearly they are awarding famous bands, not just who they perceive as the "best" [Edited 12/8/11 15:36pm] My Legacy

Yeah and WAR is far from the only group to not get in while their predecessors have. Like why Bowie got inducted before Bolan? If the New York Dolls are nominated - and are inducted - that can open the door for KISS. I know how this Hall of Fame operates... it's no shock why WAR didn't get in, neither why Donna didn't get in or Chaka or what not.

You make some of the most biased judgemental posts sometimes BUT the funny thing is if this conversation was about a few other artists that I wont mention you would be singing a different tune. According to your logic ANYONE who voices disatisfaction in the way accolades are given... that makes them bitter or conceited...
The same with your dumb comments on Kelly Price, Jill Scott etc its not like their proclaiming to make the best damn music...
This is fuckin WAR a very influential 70s group that were more innovative than Beasties and Roses and if it had not been for them their probably would be no Prince.
They have EVERY RIGHT to feel the way they feel.. regardless if the RHF is a joke or not.. Who are you to tell someone how they should or should not feel. Who are you? You have no right ESPECIALLY when you havent gone through half the sacrifice and sweat they gone through to get to where they are UNLIKE most artists out today they had to work their asses off, deal with racism etc. I think awards are shits as well but this is an old skool band here and WAR NEVER gets acknowledges for anything... they were criminally robbed of this... they have a right to be mad and THEY are right.. they are more influential and have made a far greater impact regardless if they sound conceited or not
SO WHAT ... Chaka didnt say anything when she didnt get in.. or Donna that shouldnt excuse WAR's feelings on why they feel like THEY were robbed because they were... Im happy NOW artists are starting to voice out the unfairness of the industry if everyone stuck to following your passive *not reality* logic the truth would never get out.
Like you honestly think just because Donna and Chaka or Janet havent SAID anything publicly they dont care??... Naive as hell
LOL... yea they DO to.

Simple truth is, among the Hall voters have blind spots that ultimately keep a lot of successful or groundbreaking acts from getting in.
- Disco is constantly passed over.
- Arena rock acts of the 70's, especially KISS, are passed over.
- Funk is often overlooked.
- Acts that blend musical traditions -- WAR being perhaps the most obvious example -- are overlooked.
Hell, take away Purple Rain and Prince, for the depth of his musical canon, may still be on the outside looking in.

The Beastie Boys are legends, if only for this video. And it points to why the hall of fame would like them. They are actually a rock band. Same with RCHP--a rock band that plays some funk.

I'll never understand why people take this so seriously. It's been a joke popularity contest for years.
There's a long list of bands that SHOULD be there, but its not the Beastie Boys or RHCPs fault that some mysterious panel hasn't put them there yet.
Also, I doubt the Beastie Boys will take any offense to the comments from War. Seemed pretty harmless to me.

thing is as someone stated, Rolling Stone and magazine writers have alot alot to do with things, thats why GNR is in and Bon Jovi will most likely not get in at all, one was a critics darling and the other was topic of hate everytime they made a record, but Jovi is the biggest worldwide band next to u2 and their in.
Next thing is that its understandable they are upset but i would be more upset and site others that arent in rather than shoot at people selected, especially when they are pretty decent artists, like i said Percy Sledge and Del Shannon are each in for one song. Next thing, CHICAGO isnt in nor where they ever on the list, let me repeat that CHICAGO, makers of 30+ albums, together for over 40 years now, hits in the 60's 70's 80's and 90's, a touring force still now, working on new music, regardless of what peeps think of the "ballads" this band had some of the best jams ever, including IM A MAN which Prince cited as what he learned to play guitar too, and also this band had Terry Kath who was a teacher to hendrix and sorry, but Kath is possibly the best ever. So with them never even mentioned on getting in, the fame has no clout. Chicago, Rush, etc etc etc
The list of actual ROCK acts that have never even made it through the nomination process is ridiculously long. That's one of the main reasons the RRHOF can no longer be taken seriously. They want people to pay to get through the door. That's all.
