Book of Liars

A rare lead vocal by Walter Becker from their album Alive in America (1995).
This album represented their return to touring after almost a 20 year absence.

The song also appears on Walter Becker's first solo album 11 Tracks of Whack.

By and by girl
We'll get over
The things we've done and the things we said
But not just now girl
But now I can 't remember
Exactly what it was we thought we had
You know I waited so long girl and I came so far
To see that you're not always who you say you are

And there's a star in the book of liars by your name
And there's a star in the book of liars by your name

Santa Claus came home late last night
Drunk on Christmas wine
Fell down hard out in the driveway
And hung his bag out on the laundry line
You know he's got a Cobra Gunship for his golden boy
And there's a Hello Kitty for his pride and joy

And a silver star in the book of liars by your name
They hung a star in the book of liars by your name

Time exploding
The long night passing
Electrons dancing in the frozen crystal dawn
Here's one left stranded at the zero crossing
With a whole of his half-life left to carry on
But then the world's much larger than it looks today
And if my bad luck ever blows me back this way

Well I'll just look in my book of liars for your name
I'll just look in the book of liars for your name

Be sure and add this one to your Favorite Xmas Tunes list!

I like the music to this song.. it sort of has a "lazy, dreamy" vibe to it..

but Walt's vocals.. hmm..

I like his singing better in "slang of ages" (from 'emg')

"let me put it this way, darling..

though it's getting late.."

I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

He's got he's own vocal persona. smile
They had him singing Jack of Speed on the last tour.

Love this verse...

Now did you say you were from the Netherlands
Or was that "Netherworld"?
If you grew up in Amsterdam
Then I'm the Duke of Earl
These tabs look iffy -- you say they're good
Let's roll with the homeys -- knock on wood

... cool

I haven't listened to a lot of post-70's Steely Dan. Listening to this song makes me wonder why, because I've never heard a song by them I haven't liked.
