October 31, 2011

An album of material recorded by Amy Winehouse before she died, including new tracks as well as reworked versions of songs made popular by her and other artists, will be released on Dec. 6, an announcement on her Web site said Monday.

The album, called Lioness: Hidden Treasures, will be released by Island Records, which released her two previous albums, Frank and Back to Black, and will contain 12 tracks Ms. Winehouse recorded between 2002 and 2008, including covers of “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” and “The Girl From Ipanema.” Other songs include a slower-tempo version of Ms. Winehouse’s hit “Valerie” and a new composition called “Between the Cheats” that Ms. Winehouse planned to include on a possible follow-up to Back to Black.

Beautiful! I knew there would be another album seeing as she's apparently been working on new music for the past few years. I can't wait.

It's no different from the material released upon the approval of the estates of other dead celebs. Her family has given the project the green light.

Our Day Will Come (reggae version) – a reggae re-working of a classic 60s doo-wop song, produced by Salaam Remi. Recorded May 2002.

Between the Cheats – a new Winehouse song recorded in London in May 2008 for potential inclusion on her third album, produced by Salaam Remi.

Tears Dry – originally written by Winehouse as a ballad, this is the original version she recorded in November 2005 in Miami with Remi. The later uptempo version appears on her second album Back to Black.

Wake Up Alone – the first song recorded for the Back to Black sessions. This is the one-take demo recorded in March 2006 by Paul O'Duffy.

Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow – Winehouse's version of the Carole King-written Shirelles classic. Produced by Mark Ronson and featuring the Dap Kings with string arrangements by Chris Elliott. Recorded in September 2004.

Valerie – an original slower tempo version of the Mark Ronson produced post-Back to Black single. Recorded in December 2006.

Like Smoke – a collaboration with the New York rapper NAS, with whom Winehouse became friends after she namechecked him on Back to Black's Me & Mr Jones. Produced by Salaam Remi. Recorded in May 2008.

The Girl From Ipanema – the first song the 18-year old Winehouse sang when she went to Miami to record with Remi. Remi said that "the way she re-interpreted this bossa nova classic made me realise that I was dealing with a very special talent. Her approach to the song was so young and fresh, it really inspired the rest of our sessions." Recorded in May 2002.

Halftime – recorded in August 2002.

Best Friends – a Frank-era live set opener produced by Salaam Remi. Recorded in February 2003.

Body & Soul – a cover of the 30s jazz standard with Tony Bennett. Recorded at Abbey Road studios in London in March 2011 and produced by Phil Ramone. This is Winehouse's final studio recording.

A Song For You – a version of the Leon Russell classic made famous by Donny Hathaway. Hathaway was Amy's all-time favourite artist and the song was recorded in one take, with Amy and her guitar, at her home in London in the spring of 2009. Produced by Salaam Remi.

Producer: New Album Faithful To Amy's Legacy

November 1, 2011

Amy Winehouse's forthcoming posthumous album is "faithful to her legacy", its producer has claimed.

Salaam Remi, who worked with the singer throughout her music career, insisted that the album - called Lioness: Hidden Treasures - has undergone only two weeks of polishing and "exists on its own merits".

At a listening session for the record in London's Soho, The Guardian reports Remi saying: "[It's] just what you'd do with any recording.

"Lots of people are going to want to remember other aspects of her life, but what we have here highlights that musically and creatively, she was the tops. She was a great musician and a great songwriter as well. She wasn't a musical fluke."

Describing working on the album is a "healing process", he continued: "I had a big brother relationship with her... and I didn't want to rehash the pain that I feel now, in 12 months' time.

"We want this album to be good enough to exist on its own merits, and we think it's faithful to her legacy. Whether you can hear every lyric on every song or not, you can always hear the emotion there."

Remi described album cut 'Our Day Will Come' as pointing "the way forward to the doo wop sound of Back To Black", while 'Between the Cheats' "shows one of the main directions in which she was heading".

I hope her parents or whoever releases actual new music instead of demos in the future. Some of these songs I've already heard before.

Originally "reworked versions " kind of had me scared, but looking at the tracklist now, I am really looking forward to this. Still seems weird to me that she only had 2 proper albums, since she had so much talent and charisma sad

If you will, so will I
