Wow, I never thought I would ever see anyone post a thread about Xmal.

Their albums are a wonder. Though I don't have their last effort.

Regarding the lyrics, the album "Viva" has songs sung in English.

Great band, great music.

I don't think it matters what colour or age you are, i'm in my early 40's myself. Good music is good music my friend. thumbs up!

I regret that I never managed to see this band live, even live bootlegs are very thin on the ground.

The German language has never sounded better sung than by Anja on the first two Xmal albums. Songs like "Qual" I consider to be near perfect. I love Xmal.

I have Devils on vinyl and I'm sure it won't surprise you that it's easily the band's worst album--a collection of poppier, English-sung tracks. Listening to it depresses me.

Yes, that is the album I don't have. It's a shame that they took a turn in that direction.

Have you checked out a band called Propaganda? If not, do so, you will not regret it.

I've heard something about them, but I haven't listened to their music. I put them in the list together with Xmal Deutschland. Thank you!

I'm glad that people are discussing these German bands.

Have you people listened to Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle (F.S.K.; in English: "Voluntary Self-Control")? Very interesting indeed.

I've just read that Propaganda was the band of Claudia Brücken. I have a CD of hers, and probably in the review that convinced me to buy it her former band was mentioned. Great! I'll make my research on Propaganda's records too.

Indeed, I have yet to check out her solo material. I love her voice.

Propaganda released only two albums, but it is their debut A Secret Wish that they are so fondly remembered by. It is now available as a fabulous 2 cd deluxe edition with the 2nd disc containing many rare tracks and mixes.

The original A Secret Wish album was also released as a remix album titled Wishful Thinking. It has been reissued a couple of times on cd and is quite easy to find on ebay. I'm not usually a fan of remix projects but Wishful Thinking is a great companion to the debut with most tracks retaining the original instrumentation of the original, just being different more instrumental versions.

Their second album proper, titled 1234 is (imo) not as strong as the debut, but still a solid listen.

@ JoeyC, sorry about the thread diversion. wink

OK, thanks for the info. I'll buy at least their debut, and maybe something more, depending on how much I like it.

Their album Compiled was my soundtrack while walking around East Berlin a few years ago. This track is my favorite:
