A new park celebrating the life and music of Jimi Hendrix is set to open in the guitarist's hometown of Seattle, Washington in 2012 to commemorate what would have been his 70th birthday.

Jimi Hendrix Park, which will be located in the city's Central District, was revealed last week at a public meeting at the Northwest African American Museum.

The 2.5-acre park will include stepping stones featuring his lyrics, rain drums, a sculpted butterfly garden, a performance area, a sound garden and ample green space.

The park is being funded by donations from Jimi's sister, Janie Hendrix, as well as money from the Parks and Green Spaces Opportunity Fund and the Neighborhood Matching Fund Award in Seattle.

Cute, although they could have done a little better with the guitar design

I don't even see a guitar in that, but I suppose it's better that way

Although it does kind of resemble a long necked banjo.
