This would've been Dennis Wilson (Original Member/Drummer of The Beach Boys) 67th Birthday. He was an artist, writer & musician that never got his real respect or due, not even after his death, though his one & only released solo album, "Pacific Ocean Blue", has reached cult status....A true rebel. Though you can hear traces of Beach Boys' sound, Dennis' music was truly different...dark,sometimes funky, bluesy, wild, spooky. Totally unexpected (although alot of The Beach Boys' 66-73 output is totally underrated & unknown to the general public as well. Killer music.)

Although he began as only a drummer & vocalist, as time went on, he began to arguably write songs that were just as good as his older brother, Brian Wilson. He lived & basically died for his love of music & what he stood for (FREEDOM, without boundaries or fear), but the music lives on. "Forever".

cool I first started listening to The Beach Boys in early 2000s, beginning with "Pet Sounds" & Brian's re-recorded version of "Smile", but I didn't really pay attention to Dennis' material until early last month, while I was in the process of writing & recording EOTN's new 2012 album. Now that I'm finished with it, I see how unappreciated this dude is. Check him out if you've never heard him...

Happy B-Day, DW...& Thanks.

Thanks for replying, Timmy...hope u enjoyed the music I posted. I think if people heard just how soulful, funky & raw a lot of Dennis Wilson's music was/is, some folks' perception of The Beach Boys would change. Yes, they came from "Sunny California", in the beginning, they were the epitome of so called clean-cut things. But, they really weren't. Not going to go into the drama with the Wilson Bros. father...but I believe the band should be just as looked up & respected just as much as The Beatles. Their output from 66-73 alone warrants that... And of course, Brian is a true genius & a living legend.
Its been said that the Beatles enjoyed the freedom of writing & recording their own material @ EMI/Capitol that the Beach Boys set the precedent for. No other band before 1962 when they 1st came out had done that...
And it basically set the tone for things to follow, where artists could be fully self-produced & contained. Even though a lot of artists nowadays don't take advantage of, or don't have the opportunity to enjoy that freedom anymore, unfortunately...

Dennis was raw, man. He was the group's resident bad boy so he gets my respect (as do the entire Beach Boys actually...)

Dennis Wilson was an amazing talent. He was untamed. He lived the rock star life to the fullest, even though he was down to earth. Its a great tribute to him that Sundazed rereleased his only album and included tracks from Dennis' unreleased album "Bambu" a couple years ago.

Definitely agree with both Timmy & sunlite... cool There's also been word that a new bio-pic titled The Drummer is in the process of being made, starring Aaron Eckhart, who played Two-Face in Batman: The Dark Knight. So that could possibly help Dennis' music to finally be heard by those who never have.

Here is the 2008 documentary called Dennis Wilson: The Real Beach Boy...It really will give new perspective on everything he accomplished & went through in his lifetime.
