Music Players

These are different devices for playing music over the years.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Many people are aware of 45, 33, & 78 RPM records. But there was a fourth speed, which was 16 RPM. It was mostly used for speeches and spoken word albums and could hold more time than a 33 RPM album. Here a video of a Jim Reeves record at this speed.

Interesting, we have come a long way. If our creativity with music can advance in the same way that we have electronically, then we will be OK.

Good topic!

When SONY introduced Mini-Disc, Philips & Matsushita (now Panasonic) countered with...

[img:$uid]http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b59/jbodine/dcc_advert.jpg[/img:$uid]

...DCC (Digital Compact Cassette).

Thus initiating a short lived format war with these two manufacturing giants again.
(Beta vs VHS, Video8/Hi8 vs VHS-C/S-VHS-C)

Panasonic thought DCC would be accepted by the public as the playback hardware was also compatible with the consumer standard of the day, analog cassette tapes. However, affordable CD recorders were right around the corner and by 1996 (only 4 years after it was introduced), production was discontinued.

...Orchestrion Project

And he actually did a concert tour with it.

I never had a Fisher Price but I did have a similar record player for older kids. Mine was a Snoopy record player. My sister had a Raggedy Ann record player and I used to take both of them and put a tape recorder microphone up next to them and try to mix. This was back when I first heard mixing during the disco era. In order for a decent recording, I had to turn the volume up real loud and tell everyone to "shhhhhhhhhhh". I used to have tapes with my grandmother in the background hollering...."Andy, turn that damn shit down!". lol

Andy is a four letter word.
