The Amazing "Days of Our Lives" documentary on QUEEN

A 2hour documentary that ran on the BBC for one of the greatest bands and biggest selling bands worldwide in history has now been released with much much adds and extras to go along with the dvd and even more on the Blu-ray dvd.

I think the greatest moments on this dvd are so so many unseen moments, interviews, new stuff with Roger and Brian, unseen stuff from the last works of Freddie Mercury. Many new things i learned that even I a fan of Queen for a long time did not now.

I think the moments people will find most interesting, our the second half of Queen, which was from the Game on, but this is where it got very complex for Queen, they almost broke up, especially after HOt Space, the recording of the record did not go well, first of all they were in Munich and there were alot of "bad elements" that started to pull at the band, mainly Freddie, it is believed that either in his time in Munich or Months later eariler in NYC that he contracted AIDS. Freddie was mixing big time, with parties, and random lovers and things that he never did in the 70's. But HOT SPACE was mostly a producer and Freddie's entourage's idea, riding off the GAME's huge success this was the direction they felt, the rest of the band didnt agree on all counts, one comment was by a producer to "Lose Brian May, guitar is old fashioned" imagine that shit! Also This person in freddie's entourage said to Roger "i want QUeen to sound like what you would hear when you walk into a Gay Bar" and Rogers reply, "Really i fucking dont" .

Also some other interesting moments came on the "WORKS" record, when John came up with the anthem "I want to Break Free" he didnt want a guitar solo and brought in a keyboard player to simulate a solo and not have Brian on that. Also interesting about this track, this is the song and video that caused QUEEN to be kicked out of america basically, QUEEN never came back to America, never toured, never really promoted anything here again, though the albums still released here and made an entry and sold somewhat, QUEEN sold more in every other spot in the world than here. MTV banned the video, because it was viewed as being to "risky" meaning, Gay, because Queen was in drag, though they were mocking a soap opera in england, no one here got the job.

Next would be LIVE AID, Freddie was instructed not to do this event because he had horrible throat infection, not linked to AIDS but it could have been an early sign that he was infected in 1985, since he basically knew right after this. QUEEN then stole the show as we all know that day, no doubt about it, they ruled it. Next they did the MAGIC tour which was the because thing ever for them, ironically now Brian and Roger say, Freddie seemed like it was the last time they would play on tour, a foreshadowing they feel now, of course being true.

Queen returned to recording the Miracle in 1988-89 and by now Freddie started to look different, and rumours were flying already, finally he told the band in 1989, and as Brian May said, "he sat us down and said look, u know most likely what i am struggling with, there is no cure as far as i know, i just want to record till the day i fucking die, now lets get on with it and drop the subject" and the members rallied around their friend and brother! YES THEY LIED all the time as Brian said, and of course Roger's comments were great, "when people ask if hes sick, i said no, he was in the gym last night, fuck you its none of your business"

Of course they couldnt tour, but as this album was huge overseas, they went right back to recording, no waiting, because time was running out and Freddie was ailing, Roger says "U can hear the voice thinning and u can hear now he was ailing, but he hit every note" the videos for that album were Freddie's last times on Video, very moving. Even More moving is after this album, Freddie went to Brian and said "time is running out, write me anything and i will sing it for you, do what you have to with it" so the process was Brian and Roger and John would come up with lines and Freddie would give them 3 takes, that was it, and then Queen had to work with that because Freddie knew he would never hear these songs, he would be dead. Chilling is the Recording of "Mother Love" Brian writing lines Freddie hitting amazing notes and then Freddie being too ill to do the last verse so Brian sang it.

And those final moments, just incredible, Brian sitting with him in his room, talking about his garden and Freddie saying "You dont have to make conversation, just you being here makes me happy" and then Roger being 300 yards away from getting there to see him,and Roger getting a call "dont bother, he's gone" Roger saying this now 20 years later still has him almost breaking down, and to me sums up what these guys and freddie went through those last years.

"We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F
