Aretha is too awesome to even go against them. That's why she's not included

Yeah Aretha's talent and impact just can't be matched, but next in line in those days was definitely Gladys. I sometimes go back and forth because there are definitely moments when I think Gladys was the better of the two but then I snap back. I wonder how much bigger Gladys would be if all the success with the pips was just her by herself. There are also some performances from Patti that Aretha just wasn't seeing. But when you include the talent, the music and the impact All Hail The Queen.

Gladys all day and night (no pun intended), then Chaka...as for Patrica Louis Holt - no thanks, she doesn't even rank. The only songs of her that have been impressive in her entires career as a solo act are: "If Only You Knew" and "Ony My Own" (duet with Michael McDonald). There sere some good tune with the group LaBelle, but that is it for her. Gladys and Yvette (Chaka), are the best soul women after Aretha.

Chaka, hands down. I got respect for all of them, tho. Chaka keeps me guessing and wanting more. She's unpredictable, in a good way. She makes me curious like, "Where would she go from here?" She does it to me most of the times with the way she carries notes. Her vocal has a lot more personalities and timbers. Oh, and the sexy tone.

Without any hesitation Gladys, Patti, Chaka

This is hard 'cause all 3 are awesome...but 1. Patti 2. Chaka 3. Gladys Both Patti & Chaka were queens of funk in the 70s... But there's just something about Labelle that never ceases to amaze me. She has this animal instinct to me, like she basically knows she can kick anybody's ass when she steps on stage, & then she proves it practically everytime. Not saying Chaka or even Gladys doesn't own this ability, but I've never seen any performance where Patti backs down from any challenge. She really is the most killer R&B female vocalist I've ever heard...but Chaka is truly funky, sensual & powerful as well. It is a hard choice... Exiles of the Nation
