Terence Trent D'Arby- Brief Prince mention

Terence Trent D'Arby: Wild Card!
(Sananda)

Caroline Sullivan
Friday February 21, 2003
The Guardian

4/5 Stars

Terence Trent D'Arby had a difficult 1990s, the nadir of which was probably the desperate mating call Supermodel Sandwich with Cheese from his 1995 album Vibrator. But he has started the new century with a clean slate, changing his name to Sananda Maitreya and launching his own label.
The artful blend of soul, rock and funk is reassuringly familiar, though. D'Arby/ Maitreya still exercises a Prince-like control over songwriting, arrangement and production, rendering it a one-man show, but that's no bad thing with an artist of his ability. Drivin' Me Crazy packs enough lust into three funky minutes to satiate his most ardent fans (or "lightbeings", as he calls them), and the outstanding Suga Free pairs dark balladry with an operatic choir. Even the banjo-plinking O Divina comes good in the end, swelling into a Motownesque chorus. A snazzy comeback.

"London, i've adopted a name that has no pronounciation.... is that cool with you?"

"YEAH!!!"

"Yeah, well then fuck those other fools!"

I saw him live a few months ago. hes touring europe and will start touring the sates in april.

his band wasnt good, in my humble opinion...

but Terence sings the same, and he looks so good!!! he was a runway model 4 Roberto Cavalli's 2002 collection in Milan Fashion Week, so just think how he looks!!

i wrote him an email and he sent me his cd, a poster and 3 photos all signed!!!

after the shows he usually talks 2 ppl and sign autographs 4 hours...i love this man!!!

TTD is great... I've always wanted to see him live but never have. Also, I really should buy Wild Card... although he gave it away free, I feel I should buy the official copy smile

I saw hin live twice. During the 1995 "Vibrator"-Tour, those Concerts were amazing, and during the "Wild Card"-Tour in 2000. He is one of the best living singers. What a voice!
See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...

YES, he is a GREAT live singer/performer!!! I've seen him live several times and he really is outstanding.
If you want to be informed about tour dates or anything else concerning Sananda just go to

And yes Ian, go and buy Wildcard there are some changes on the released versions (as to be seen on the ""Wildcard Evolution" on his site as well)
With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

I want to ... but the problem is, I really liked the original download version. I don't really want a different version! Dunno why he has fucked around with it so much... e.g. he has left "Love can u hear me" off the Joker's Edition...

BUT if you don't buy the released versions you miss such fantastic songs as "Some Birds Blue" (if you don't have the OMPST it's on), Reflecting, Testify. etc., and that REALLY would be a pity, wouldn't it cry

BUT it must be allowed to help a moderator if he has some questions (don't forget how much time and effort they put into their "job").
So Ian, it's a graet idea to buy the CD especially considering the fact how cheap an independent artist sells his CDs via his site (contrary to Prince...ooops, another Prince mention, are you happy now abierman wave ). If I was you I would also buy the single CD as "Mona Lisa's Laughing" is a fantastic song IMO.
