Has Kirk Franklin ever actually SUNG in a song? Just wondering if the Jiminy Cricket of gospel does more than speak/rap on the mike. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

He tried singing live at the BET Awards last year. After hearing the first couple of bars I guarantee you it's not his specialty.

"You can't stop me devil!" When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Yes, he has.
As singers go, he's a really awesome pianist.

Kirk Franklin is a lot like Quincy Jones. He's more famous in having other people sing the lead vocals on HIS albums.

He really didn't use to sing much but I've noticed that he's been trying it a little bit with his last two albums.

He's a hype man. | |

Sometimes, he should stick to being the hype man. He can't sing worth a lick.

Yeah. He sang "My Arms Too Short To Box With God" and anybody else for that matter. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

I really dislike his form of music making.

I do too! WTF does he actually do? I think I can do it just as badly. "Keep in mind that I'm an artist...and I'm sensitive about my shit."--E. Badu

The only song I recall him "singing" in is when he did "Joy" with the Georgia Mass Choir and it wasn't that bad lol. Like someone said earlier he is one hell of a pianist. I went to his concert a few weeks back and he certainly knows how to work a crowd. I'm a fan. "I Smile" is my ish lol.

Why would anyone go to a Kirk Franklin concert? To here him yell "Make some holy ghost noise", "Come on!", "Praise Jesus!"?

Someone asked the question....
Why do we sing....
...Wait a dayum minute! We aint neva heard yo ass sing!!

Some tracks from Kirk's first 2 albums featuring The Family (NOT to be confused with Prince's side project from the 1980's!!!) are good.
But everything else Kirk came out with since (his solo work & side projects) has been nothing but mostly beat-biting George Clinton, Michael Jackson, Patrice Rushen and still getting over with the contemporary gospel audience that like the turn their megachurches to self-contained "Christian" clubs on Sunday morning.

How did he get famous again? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

I'd like to know the answer to that. It seemed like he and his gospel hip-hop choir just popped out of nowhere.
Damn he short. He is def shorter than Prince. Has to be. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

He used to earlier in his career, but had to stop for obvious reasons, though.
Some people are simply meant to sit and play at the pi-ana, then stand up and direct the choir and bounce around some.

He writes/composes the music/lyrics on his records, and in concert you discover that he really is a great pianist. He knows what he's doing and has music chops alright, it just ain't with singin'

Timmy, Christians that actually listen to Gospel, that's not true by any stretch of the imagination

Dude has skills................I just hate that stupid talking over a song. It is silly in my opinion.

LMAO!! you hit the nail on the head with this!
But I do like Kirk Franklin (not a huge fan but its alright some stuff anyway). I love gospel music in general. He tries to cross-over to the younger audience with the gospel music and appeal more to them (which is smart because he has alot of hit singles because of that)... there are some that do it better but there are other things that he is talented in and works with behind the scene that isnt singing....
He also beat bites Earth Wind and Fire to

I know what you mean, that's how I used to feel about Nathalie from Floetry. I know their music was supposed to showcase her spoken word/poetry skills, but after a while her talking over every song drove me nuts

OK, maybe I overjudged him.
He does have some inspirational music though. "Why I Sing" is still a CLASSIC.

Natalie did sing in the background... and she did songwriting and rapped
rapping.. spoken word etc its all the same..

Yes, and he shouldn't. For God's sake.
