Boss Hogg's speed trap

Several performers appeared on The Dukes Of Hazzard. They were passing through Hazzard County and were caught speeding. So they either had to go to court (which none of them ever did) or perform at the Boar's Nest to have the speeding ticket dismissed (which Boss sold tickets to see). According to Ben Jones' (who played Cooter) autobiography, James Brown wanted to be on the show for the speed trap, but the network nixed it. The reason was that CBS didn't think the show's audience would want to see James. The cast was upset at this decision and considered it an insult to the show's fans.

Loretta Lynn Johnny Paycheck

Roy Orbison Oak Ridge Boys

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Sure you can. It clearly says click on the link to watch them on the Youtube site. wink The posters blocked the embedding to watch the videos elsewhere.

A lot of the shows fans would have loved to see James Brown but if you want to keep the show believable, those rednecks in the Boar's Nest would never pay money to see James Brown. lol

I don't know, there is a video of James performing with Charlie Daniels. wink Really, "country and western" came about because hillbillies and poor whites in rural areas bought blues records in the early 1900's. Some whites in the south also heard blacks that they had sharecropping, singing in the fields picking cotton. Country (which was originally called "Hillbilly" at the time) was their version. The banjo is an instrument native to Africa. Trivia: James Avery, who played Uncle Phil on Fresh Prince Of Bel Aire, was on an episode of The Dukes.

Do you think the drunk folks in the little hillbilly hole in the walls across the country know the history or even care? The reality is, they see a black person in one of their clubs and they run him out. If James Brown had performed at the Boar's Nest, a lot of the viewers would love to see it but they know that's TV and his acceptance in a place like was not likely in real life. Bo and Luke themselves were some very nice friendly guys but they were fictional characters on a TV show written to be that way. In real life, two white guys from the South riding around in a car with a Confederate Flag painted on it would be far from being friendly like the Duke boys. lol

I know about racist rednecks with the rebel flags on their license plates, but the flag in itself isn't necessarily racist, just like the swastika isn't. It's an ancient symbol that existed long before nazis. I've seen black folks with the "stars and bars" sticker on their trucks. The show wasn't really realistic in the first place. Do you really think that the LAPD would hire Enos? lol Remember his spin off show? Or that someone would keep Roscoe, Enos, & Cletus after wrecking dozens, maybe hundreds of police cars. razz If you noticed, there was generally black folks drinking beer in the Boar's Nest, and there was also Sherriff Little, who was black. I even saw Chinese people in some of the crowd scenes in Hazzard County.

I remembered this show. Used to watch it all of the time, back in the day. As for James Brown's appearance, I think Charlie Pride, and his music would be more country friendly, and fit the southern ways than Brown. Brown's appearance on the show is like having the Blues Brothers at the Country and Western bar. Ironically, he was in that movie smile
