Just to think according to Rick James memoir, Teena was not considered first choice for this ballad he had someone else in mind but Teena who was nursing a high fever but was determine to sing on this track when she heard Rick was going to use another singer.
Thank god she won him over.......Today's music pales in comparison to this classic. |

I'm sure Rick was bending the truth here since him & Teena had a love/hate relationship. He may have been mad at her when he wrote his memoir. I can not believe Rick really had anyone else in mind to sing that duet with. That song was tailor made 4 him & Teena. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! It's the same with me. I prefer Happy over F & D. |

it's interesting that this song was never released as a single.R&B stations wore it out!! They played it as if it was a single. It was in heavy rotation all throughout the summer/fall of '81.Not releasing it as a single was a smart move: it forced people to buy the whole album.
Hell, even nowadays,I still hear this song on the radio all the time. It's one of those eternal classics. |

Exactly! I knew I was right. They had that type of relationship. I really miss them a lot especially Teena. I'm glad I was able to tell her how I felt about her a few years ago face 2 face. I get teary eyed whenever her name is mentioned. I still can't believe she is gone. I hope they do right by her legacy.

i remember there was a thread about a commodores song and you posted that it was never a single, but the stations played it as if it was (now i can't remember which one). i was surprised when you posted that, just like i'm surprised *this* song was never a single either!!! |
