I have avoided hearing Marsha live for a while... something about her voice live sounds a mess. neutral

Have any idea what she's doing that makes her sound this way live? It's that goat yodel like thing she does to her voice that gets irritating sometimes. Just hold the note Marsha, no need for the extra. Still like her record though. smile

No me. I was watching "Columbo" over on the ME Network. Awards shows like that are the reason I have no desire to have cable anymore....even if I could afford it. lol

Yodeling????????? Oh hell naw! I knew R&B wasn't shit these days but they have completely lost ALL hipness and gotten downright fucking dorky! If you had accused someone back when I was growing up of liking yodelling, they would have beat your ass. I don't know why I'm surprised though considering how backwards R&B has become in the last 20 years so why not yodelling? Next they'll being bringing out accordions. evillol

Okay the Gladys tribute:

Oh my Freddie Jackson.... pray he needs prayer.

1. Tamar was just okay.

2. Lawd has Chrisette gained bookoo weight? She wasn't that impressive either.

3. Oh no they got Marsha up here again? disbelief don't mean no harm, but it looks as if she gaining some of that weight back. She still looks good but she sounds awful.

4. Mary Mary, loved them.

5. Natalie Cole, can't help but to love her. (was it just me or did they never do a close up on Natalie Cole until she presented the award to Gladys???)

Gladys was preaching on that stage. clapping

Loved that performance with BeBe too.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I couldn't help but think the only reason they even did what they did for Heavy D was because it had just happened.

I too, found the non-acknowledgements of the passings of Teena, Vesta and Gil, quite disheartening, when so much airtime was wasted on the Braxtons and the Housewives of Whothefuckcares! mad

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

That was shameful...awards shows usually do a whole montage of everybody who passed away that year.

This was a really low rent production with only a few highights.

The Earth Wind & Fire tribute:

1) Miguel...who the hell chose this fool for this tribute? What the hell did he sing? All I saw was him shuffling all across the stage saying "yeah, c'mon, yeah". rolleyes

2) Musiq and Bootsy, loved Bootsy, Musiq was just okay to me.

3) Lalah Hathaway...voice was way too deep to sing the song, but she was on key and I can appreciate that more than most of them damn performances throughout the whole show.

4) Eric, Robin and Joe.....I love Joe. He did good. Robin, was Robin, he was okay. Eric was really really good.

5) Damn how many times Cee Lo going to perform? lol But Stokely love such a breath of fresh air.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Marsha sounded horrid! Damn, I was thinking, Is she ok? Also, whoever styled her needs to be fired pronto! That dress was so unflattering. I think she has almost put all of her weight back on but damn! Don't get me started on that wig too eek

One thing I noticed is that Heavy D got a bigger tribute than Ashford. That was a bit odd and no mention of Vesta?

I didn't notice Miguel sounding terrible. I guess i'm in the minority because I enjoyed his performance.

Thanks for posting about this show, I was able to find a couple of links online.

Really enjoyed the Heavy tribute though it made me sad. There was such genuine love and respect for that brother. That was my childhood on stage.

See, this is why I didn't bother watching because I knew they were going to throw some dumb bullshit in there somewhere. I hope they didn't have that Candi girl from that Housewives show parading around up on stage, with her non-singing ass.

I'm surprised Patti was there via video tribute.

maybe the bad press she's been getting of late kept her off the performers list via her pending lawsuits.

Patti LaBelle

2. New York City mom is suing R&B legend Patti LaBelle for allegedly abusing her and and her 18-month-old daughter. (patti supposedly “started cursing and screaming” and flung water from a bottle she was holding at Roseanna Monk and her daughter.)

Lalah actually recorded that particular song on some EW&F tribute CD that was released a few years ago. Last night, she pretty much stuck to her original recorded interpretation of the song. I didn't care much for it at first because I thought she should have really cut loose at the end like Maurice does on the original. But, in time, Lalah's more subdued version grew on me.

ohgoon Honey you must don't know me. I KNOW almost ALL OF EWF's music, so I don't need to be schooled. And if I don't like the way Lalah sung the song, then I don't like it, point blank. I'm entitled to my own opinion and I'M NOT SORRY, in my opinion, I didn't care for her version of the song and prefer the original. Thank you.
