Freddie was the most unique and was one of VERY few who understood how to take over an event. Performers since have no clue, everything is HYPE and Freddie made his own. LIVE AID was owned by Freddie and the band was a last minute add to the bill, bareley a soundcheck, no hype, no prep, just took the stage and STOLE the whole event from every icon known, including a top billed ZEPPELIN reunion and a closing with Patti Labelle Bob DYlan etc...no one even spoke of those acts next day, it was all how freddie and queen stole the show

Yeah Freddie made the rest of the stars a blur. Even show-stealing Patti LaBelle lmao

Yeah he even stole the ending too, most people didnt see when they came out for "Is this the world we created" with him and Brian on Guitar, a song that could be played now and fits the current state of things too, thats why Queen always had it, from day one they were a global band, and if in one country they werent BIG there were 20 others they were HUGE.

True. Queen was never loyal to just one country, they had other countries that loved them (and Freddie) to death.

IMO easily the greatest vocalist/frontman of the rock era. Had a dynamic stage presence that can't be rivaled and versed in so many different genres.

Best vocal performance of Freddie is also his most haunting: "Mother Love" from Made in Heaven

I think one thing about Freddie that i will always treasure is his bravery those last years, that even though he had his "band members" and very vvery close friends lie for him, they loved him so much they did it, he also made sure that after he was gone that they were protected. The treatment the press gave freddie that last year especially, was insane, hiding in bushes, etc, just trying to get a pic of Freddie was not only criminal, it was just plain disgusting.

There is a documentary from a few years back that shows all of this and also the last years, very sad, but you see and hear his freinds all talk of his bravery, and how he kept on as long as he could and had his voice, but once he couldnt record, he had to let go of his life, and stop taking any drugs(meds) to keep him going. In this doc its also said by a producer friend that he felt Freddie contracted AIDS in NYC, in the later 70's very early 80's, Freddie stayed in NYC alot, the whole club scene coming out of the 70s and early 80's there was alot of drugs and just wild behavior and Freddie probably got mixed into a few bad relationships with people.

The thing that has always to this day bothered me is the interview on Arsenio Hall with Magic Johnson after Freddie died, Arsenio asked if Magic thought "Freddie should have come out with the news earlier" and both said he should have to get attention to the problem. I always though this was a CHEAP SHOT and IGNORNANT, mainly because Freddie was gay, magic wasnt, plus Freddie was a world star, magic was not close to that ever, Freddie dieing of AIDS in 1991 as a gay man is much different then, then say if it were today 20 years later where certain things are accepted. Freddie owed it to NO ONE to say what he was or what he had, except those very very close to him.

Beautiful song and that album is always overlooked as being nothing more than "thrown together", but tracks like Mother Love and Winters Tale coming from a man that has very very little time left is chilling that he was still so ALIVE. Chilling fact about Mother Love was that it was Queens last song recorded, Freddie was unable to finish that song, Brian sings the last verse instead.

I agree about the situation with Magic and Arsenio, that was stupid and ignorant.

What was really telling about the album is that it if fate were different and Freddie had lived, the 1990s would have been an even bigger boom period for Queen. It was one of the better albums of 1995.

I always felt like Freddie left too early but I guess he was prepared to leave this earth early. sad He often talked about dreading getting old.
