Family joins hospital vigil at George Michael's bedside as he battles pneumonia
George Michael’s family are today at the stricken star’s hospital bedside in Vienna. The singer, who is suffering from severe pneumonia, has been joined by his 75-year-old father Kyriacos Panayiotou – known as Jack Panos – as well as sisters Melanie, 49 and Yioda, 53. His former boyfriend, art dealer Kenny Goss, is also due to join the group in the Austrian capital. A close friend told the Mail: ‘His whole family are with him. They are very close-knit. ‘George is just such a lucky man in that sense. He’s so adored.’ The 48-year-old star’s boyfriend, hair stylist Fadi Fawaz, has kept a bedside vigil since the singer fell ill on Monday last week. Mr Fawaz, 38, appeared tired and drawn as he left the hospital during the weekend. He was accompanied by two women, believed to be Michael’s sisters, one of whom held her head in her hands waiting in the lobby at the AKH hospital. A hospital spokesman yesterday declined to comment on the singer’s condition.
Speaking of 53-year-old Goss, Michael’s partner for 13 years until 2009, the friend continued: ‘Kenny of course is very concerned. He has been in touch every day. They will always be the best of friends.’
The AKH is Europe’s largest hospital with 1,600 doctors, including world experts in pneumonia who are treating Michael in the intensive care unit using a Triadyne Proventa bed, designed for critical cases.
Michael fell ill last week hours before he was due on stage in the city, and on Friday cancelled the rest of his Symphonica tour.

I read that yesterday. Doesn't look too good.

This doesn't sound good "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

The news over this is kinda ridiculous: rumors have reported that these things are happening:
So who knows? But I saw his friend (or boyfriend or whatever) and he looked strained. I feel for him, George's family and Kenny Goss. I really don't know what to make of all that is happening since it's kinda fast.

Why does George's face look so--waxen? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

I know. This is really out of left field. GM was still tweeting less than two weeks ago (the 17th, I think) and now it appears he's at death's door.
I was thinking maybe things weren't that bad after his boyfriend spoke up but now with his whole family and his ex-bf coming to see him, it makes me fear the worst.

I'm saying! | |

I hope they just came here because he will have to stay in the hospital for a while longer and not because the situation is that serious. The hospital is not allowed to comment on him, so nobody really knows what's going on and it's just the media speculating.

I hope that's all it is too! I hate the media speculations. I'm refusing to believe he'll lose his voice over the treatment! How you gonna say "he's on the road to recovery" and then say "but he may lose his voice". GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE!

The thing is... they're all coming at the SAME time. It seems like a rush to be there. If he was doing okay and just had to stay a while, I'd think it wouldn't be so rushed - especially for Kenny to come.

That is what is scaring me... you think if he was doing okay, Kenny Goss wouldn't stop doing what he was doing to take a flight there to see him. Plus his father and sisters have also been there. But I can understand the privacy. Being a celebrity and having a serious health problem is crazy.

Right. If they all rushed over when he first went in and then his bf had reported he was doing better, it would "feel" much better... when they all start flocking in after a week...
Yes, and the press seems to love to talk about GM anyway...

Ailing George Michael 'improving'
Singer George Michael is "improving steadily" from his bout of pneumonia, according to the Austrian doctors treating him. The 48-year-old is being treated at Vienna's AKH hospital after he became ill last week and was forced to axe the rest of his tour. Doctors said he had been in intensive care because of the "severity and extension" of the illness. They made clear that he will need a period of "complete rest" to recover from the illness but emphasised he had no further underlying health problems. In a statement, Professors Gottfried Locker and Christoph Zielinski said: "The latest development in Mr Michael's case, which has evolved from a severe pneumococcal infection, necessitated intensive care due to its severity and extension. "We are happy to announce that Mr Michael is improving steadily with an impressive regression of pneumonic symptoms and follows a steady rate of improvement as hoped. "There are no other health issues with regards to the patient other than the underlying pneumonic disorder, and no further measures had to be taken." They continued: "Mr Michael is receiving precisely the same treatment as any ordinary patient in Austria would receive at the hospital for this disease." The medics said "complete rest and peace and quiet are mandatory" for his recovery. Copyright © 2011 The Press Association. All rights reserved.
