Special Thanksgiving Day Track - Alice's Restaurant A little background. Arlo Guthrie committed this mostly true Thanksgiving Day tale to record in 1967. On the 30th anniversary of the incident, he went back to the location where he wrote the song and performed it for a live audience. The title track was updated (based on political events that had since occurred) and renamed Alice's Restaurant (The Massacree Revisited). A movie based on the scenario was released in 1969 However, I heard him do this tune many months before the original recording. There was a public radio station in NYC, WBAI, where Arlo came in and did the song live. IMO, it was a much better rendition than the one that made it to the record. Due to tons of requests, the station would periodically play a tape of the in-studio performance based on pledge committments. ...Alice's Restaurant (The Massacree Revisited) Music for adventurous listeners tA Tribal Records "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn.
