The network has also formally apologized for the Roots' song choice. Questlove made a conscious (and foolish decision) to pre-announce it on Twitter, and then sheeplishly downplayed it when the you-know-what hit the fan.

I'm not exactly sure how this will affect The Roots' employment at NBC, but I believe they have a new album coming out, and I'm sure this won't exactly be hurting their sales figures, nor their street cred. As stupid as is seems, this was probably all a part of some sort of plan, and as long as it doesn't cost them their NBC gig, it probably will not have hurt them in the long run. And although I feel The Roots have been a big part of that shows success, I hope they haven't gotten to the point where they feel they're too big to be cut from it.
Moreover, as much as I can't stand Bachman (...and my feelings for her come close to hate), there's a small part of me that feels a teeny-tiny bit of sympathy for her for being made to look like such a fool. I also feel that it can't play well for the Karma of anyone that would put that kind of energy into making another person look so bad (...she really doesn't need any help in that department). If ?uestlove indeed tweeted his intentions in advance, that would explain to me why I noticed Bachman explicitly failed to acknowledge The Roots when she came on stage. Because although I didn't catch the significance of the song the band was playing at the time, I certainly detected Bachman's icy response to them.

NBC shouldnt have apologized period.Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman
