Your 2 Favourite Movie Soundtracks and Why? (Prince Films Not Included!)

Mine are as follows..

1. Prince Of Egypt -1998 - Dreamworks Animated Studios

Easily for me the most powerfull soundtrack Ive ever heard, It works without the film!! plus it contains Hanz Zimmer's finest score!! it can reduce you to tears....Some amazing songs from the movie thatll warm and melt the coldest of hearts! and give ya goospimples. I just wish they left the Mariah/Whitney song "When You Beleive"..out because its quite cheesey chow mein!

2. Hunchback Of Notre Dame - 1996 - Walt Disney

Two hundred tormented priests raise their voices in an agony of penitence, timpani pounding and strings ablaze. And always the tolling of the bells, the bells. It sounds more like the Day of Judgement than a Disney soundtrack. It's worth it. Hunchback is a fully-formed musical, a soundtrack which like Prince Of Egypt works without the film. The narrative is strong and characterisation clear.

Because it is a classic r&b record and maybe the most influential soundtrack of its time.

Because it is transcendent.

I agree on this one. It's fun to sing along to and I remember looking at the pictures inside of the album the whole time I would listen to it, almost like I was watching the film itself.

And my other fave:

Because it's fun to sing.

"Saturday Night Fever" is my favorite. As for why, hell, it's not only disco, but great disco. That alone is reason enough.

Co-Sign with the Aladdin soundtrack too. Oh let me just go on the record and say, it feels weird not to include Prince's Batman album with this list. Just sayin. cool

This needs to be broken down into Soundtracks AND Scores. There's a big difference between the two.

POP soundtracks

-SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER: T-H-E soundtrack, the second best-selling soundtrack of all time (fuck you Bodyguard), the apex of vynil, album sales and late-70s mainstream music. The movie would be worthless without the songs. The clearest example of a pop soundtrack NAILING a whole film...

-ROCKY IV (if I cannot include Purple Rain): some of the best sports-inspired pop songs and THE best gym music of all time.

INSTRUMENTAL, scores

-THE LAST EMPEROR: one of the best albums of all time, the apex of Sakamoto

-STAR WARS saga: just as good as any piece of Mozart or Bach, and I'm serious
