R.Kelly: Waste Of Talent.

He reminds me of that 6 foot 11 guy that can't dunk a basketball.

No, that is a lie. His music is too glossy, too over produced and too formulaic.

R. Kelly can be this shit when he's not indulging in himself. Say what you want about the perverted little bastard, he's got at least 5 songs everyone likes.

Right, I could name 50 of R's cuts I dig easy. He has nine CDs worth of album alone (inc dual effort with Jay-Z) let alone all the remixes and work for/with other acts...

I agree.I like a few R.Kelly songs ("I Believe I Can Fly" was cool) but overall,I find his music to be un-inpired and boring. His songs mostly consist of heavy bass,a guest rapper, and cheesy lyrics ("you remind me of my Jeep"?).

There are only a handful of songs that fit that description on the "Chocolate Factory/Loveland" CD. It just maybe the best album he has done.

Mr7

I think he has potential, but often his lyrics and seemingly narrow range just left him down.

However, when he is good, he is very good.

I'd like to hear him forget the popular market and just do a straight up organic soul album.

By the way, is the new album worth getting? I've got the last 3.

IMO it is better than TP2.com and it hs a flow similiar to the self titled "R.Kelly" album from 95.

His organic vibe can be found at times on most of the albums but for a majority in more "mature" R. Kelly music check his self titled album from 95, Loveland bootleg and now Chocolate Factory.

He should've called it "R.'s Confession". Becoz you could hear the Edgy, dark and angry music all over,,its anything but cheesy. Check out "What I Feel/Issues" this is the MOST soulful song he eva did,,also "Low Double Life" which he tells a very dark story that(some ppl) relate to.

That was the 1st LP I eva bought from him.

That's the first one I got, and probably for the same reasons also. It's true what you said about 'What I feel/Issues', I was feelin' that as well, and the slow jams rock also...

I don't know about talent, but his records sure are a waste of money. Everybody sing:

"I believe I can fly...
I believe I can touch the sky...
Though you're far away...
I am here to stay...
Cause you are not alone...

chorus:

I'll be your cloud up in the sky,
I'll be your shoulder when you cry,
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith 'coz you believed
I'm everything I am
Because you loved me"

You could sing that all as one song, no problem, right? Not only does he write the same song over and over again, he rips Diane Warren off.

Exactly.
His gospel songs are insulting.
His lyrics are childish.
He is an average piano player.
The main reason why he is still popular, becasue he has done the same thing over and over.

R Kelly is still popular because he brought out the dirty innuendo of blues music and set a trend with it. He's not poetic about it by any means. Any 13 year old can write lyrics like Bump N' Grind, You Remind Me of a Jeep, and Ignition. Johnny Taylor, RIP, could've written and sang the same songs. But the man does have a knack for production and he put those qualities into R&B in the early 90s.

You really think that is why Rkelly is still popular.

That was the 90's, this is 2003 and he is still doing the same shit.
